One for this Saturday night...looks like a new series

    BBC 2
    21:05 – 22:05: The Last Nazis

In the Autumn of 1941, an Austrian doctor called Aribert Heim was assigned to the Mauthausen Concentration Camp. In just six weeks, he murdered hundreds of inmates by carrying out horrific and needless experiments. He evaded capture and has never answered for his crimes - but 60 years on and with Heim well into his 90s, fresh evidence has emerged suggesting that he might still be alive.

Missed this in return for usual Sat Nite TV delights with the promise from the missus that it'd be repeated really soon. Was it good?

I totally agree with urqh, weak documentary but perhaps for differing reasons.
These reporters like many of us who judge these old men were not there. And can only imagine, what it must have been like. On looking at the second programme in the series, there were a lot of what ifs?? The first programme was much better about an SS doctor Adelbert Heimm who commited terrible atrocities in Mauthausen concentration camp.
This is all we hear. Nazi war criminal. What of the Japanese, Russian, or even the allied war criminal. Or from the other side " I was following orders"
What would have happened to them, had they not, after all I am sure we are all in total agreement the Nazi regime was one of the most ruthless.
Im all for hunting down the perpetrators of war crimes, but its obvious we still want the blood of the Gerrmans over other axis powers. Even if they were at the bottom of the barrel. I would also put this argument forward, if I was fighting with my comrades and saw a good or best friend killed, I dont think I would react by saying tell you what thats ok the geneva convention is paramount. War is war, and the latest round of catch a Nazi albeit 65 years later, in this programme just show how nieve the reporters were. I wonder how much German history they know or how many German veterans they have spoken to.The main Nazi perpetrators are all but gone, hanged, fled or died of natural causes. Going after a few maybes or camp guard at the bottom is poor show, when there are definately bigger fish to fry in other countries with different nationalities. You just have to look at the case of Demjanuk who was hounded by the Simon Weisenthal centre and Isreal, only to be freed, by an Isreal court, after new evidence from the kgb files in Moscow became available clearing him of being Ivan the terrible. Evidence which at trial stage was deprived from the court by the prosecution. Now they have had him extradited from the US to Germany for crimes hundreds of miles away from the original places he was meant to be at. Farsical.

Fair comment urqh, but who will make the programmes on the Russians, Czechs, Japanese or even the allies. Hunting Nazis sells programmes, newspapers and magazines. etc. My friends wifes father died in a Japanese pow camp, murdered. This February 1600 bodies( and the authorities think thats only one third of the bodies buried) were exhumed from a mass grave in Poland, all ethnic Germans, old men women and children. All forced to strip and then walk into a ditch to be executed. Sounds familiar doesnt it. It only took the Australian news of Reuters to report it. Has it been widely reported here in the uk? Plenty of subject material its just chosen to be ignored. And on a subject very close to home, for me, The brutal death marches of the first expulsions of the Sudeten Germans, perpetrated by the Czechs under the Benes decree, one of our allies now even to this day, who refuse to lift the decree which lets the perpetrators of post war hostilities off with their criminal behaviour.
So the point I am making is, IMO its not correct to chase down these old men, who followed orders and were at the bottom of the food chain, when we allow these other crimes to go unreported, unchallenged and ignored. Afterall regardless of the uniform a war crime is a war crime.

Just watched it and I feel the way these reporters conducted themselves was all wrong...shacking hands...drinking...and even lunch with one of them! Dose anyone feel Dr Efraim Zuroff would have done the same? Most likely he would have not.

As for that Neo Nazi Women...she sleeps with the Devil.

    This Saturdays final part -

Through intimate and unique access, this trilogy of documentary films will tell three compelling stories. Children of the Master Race tells the story of the Nazis' secret breeding programme, called Lebensborn, and how the surviving children have lived their lives in the knowledge that they were bred to rule the world.

The final part was interesting telling the story of in many ways the forgotten story of the Nazis breeding program.

absolutely richard,I watched it last night too, very sad to find out your past or in there case a lack of one,to be just part of a breeding program and have no identity,it must have been very difficult to face,as those that were interviewed were aghast with horror at the things done to them and what the master race were trying to do,it is sad to have no one you called mum/dad,no family no relatives, yet they seem to have come through it for the most part! with dignity, but to be born and have an identity forced upon you was sad, finding out who you were or where your from was very hard for some to take.to be born from a system invented by himmler, only to end up as another breeding machine in time,no one can comprehend the distress caused to those that remain to this day...
