    Folks………
For anyone interested in the Regiments of Berkshire and Wiltshire I’m sure you will be pleased to know that the Regimental Museum website of The Rifles (Berkshire and Wiltshire) at long last has been upgraded. The museum has had a website for a while but as with all modern mediums it very quickly got dated and required a fresh approach to build on the success of the original site. The museum is responsible for The Royal Berkshire Regiment (49th/66th) and all volunteer units, The Wiltshire Regiment (62nd/99th) and all volunteer units, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Royal Regiment (Berkshire and Wiltshire), The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment (& LI), and now takes a strong interest in soldiers from Berkshire and Wiltshire who serve in The Rifles. In addition the museum keeps an eye on the 1st Battalion of the Rifles as that is where the ‘Golden Thread’ of the counties history has gone. (Please note the museum is not the museum of The Rifles)
The Website now has all the Battalion War Diaries for both the 1st and 2nd World Wars on the site, all of which are searchable. The Regimental Digest of service has been transcribed and is shown as a time line which enables a researcher to locate the battalions posting or station, again searchable. A significant amount of the Museum collection has now been photographed and is available to view and search on the site. The complete medal collection has been photographed and is available. Nearly all the Regimental photographic collection is now on the site with the photographic albums (going back to the 1880s being worked on as we speak, with further results being loaded up in the future). There is a soldier search facility consisting mainly of the Militia records. There is a lot more on the site and well worth a visit if you are interested in these Regiments. Most of the work has been carried out by volunteers under the stewardship of the curator. The expert’s amongst you will no doubt quickly pick up errors, please let the museum know and they will rectify them.
    Cheers
