CH4 21:00 – 22:50: Hitler: The Rise of Evil The first episode of this all-star two-part mini-series traces the young and developing mind of a burgeoning madman, following Adolf Hitler through his formative years and exploring how he evolved into the man who exploited a nation crying out for a leader it could follow. Robert Carlyle plays the part of Hitler Check TV guide for part two One for this Monday... CH4 21:20 – 22:25: Churchill's Darkest Decision During World War II, in the summer of 1940, Winston Churchill faced a terrible dilemma. France had just surrendered and only the English Channel stood between the Nazis and Britain. Germany was poised to seize the entire French fleet, one of the biggest in the world. With these ships in his hands, Hitler's threat to invade Britain could become a reality.
Saw Hitler Rise of Evil in todays T.V. guide, but havn't heard about the Churchill doc on Monday, so thanks for the heads up.
Sounds like you UK Gents get some good programming there. None of the 15 or so local stations here in Houston with the exception of the local PBS station-play anything like that. Currently on Wednesday evenings from 8-10pm-there is a series being aired called: Stalin: Behind Closed Doors-which has been very good from the episodes i've managed to watch.
Hi Richard-I enjoy the series very much and thought it very well done. I wonder if it is out on DvD yet? I'd love to get them. I thought that they also had some great info about what the Russians did to Poland when they first invaded and then came through again later in the war. Great info on the Katyn Forest massacre. I thought it kinds funny that the 6th Air Army was changed on paper-to become the Polish Air Army-thus officially making those Soviets serving in it-Polish Citizens.
The book and DVD are on sale...bought both together at amazon and saved some money. Hopefully be on sale in the U.S soon.
You may be able to watch the Mels el Kebir / Oran one (Churchill's Darkest Decision) at the following link after it has been on (can't promise anything though!).... 4oD Catch-Up - Channel 4
Havn't gotten round to watching the Hitler doc yet, but I did see Churchill's Darkest Hour/operation catapult. I only knew the basic outline of the operation, so it was great to this doc about it. I felt for the veteran who served on HMS Hood as there seemed to still be a lot of sorrow in his voice when talking about it, although I think he was right in saying at the end that they did what they had to do.
Just watching Hitler's Family at the moment, interesting. After that part two of Hitler: The Rise of Evil.
Couple of points to note from Hitler's Family..Hitler did his most to cover his family and yet Himmler had a folder on Hitler's family.
I finally got round to watching Churchill's Darkest Decision today and found it interesting, when Churchill wrote to Roosevelt asking for 50 of his oldest warships Roosevelt felt that England was about to go to the wall and had no guts to fight on. After Churchill order to sink the French fleet Roosevelt changed his mind and sent the warships along with aid. The whole situation was without question a very hard decision for Churchill, should he trust the word of the French Admiral or risk the ships falling in to German hands which could have knocked England out of the war.

We both can't stand the purple-colored Bear/Dinosaur or whateveritis? He called it "Barney the Basta##. ;-))
