Hello everyone! I haven't been on here for a while (schoolwork has kept me busy) and I've forgotten how great this site is! That being said, I recently found some photos of my Uncle Leo. He served during World War II, enlisting with his friend Jack Borland less than two months after Pearl Harbor. They were trained at Camp Callan in early 1942. That's the end of what I know. His photo in uniform, however, has some insignia on it that I'm not sure about. Here's the links to the pictures I uploaded on FindAGrave (files are too big):

Back of photo reads "Left to Right: Jack Borland, Waltman. March 1, 1942. Camp Callan."

Back of photo reads "A picture taken of Leo in Westwood, Calif. last August."

    Specifics:
    Leo Luther Waltman
    Born 1918
    Oklahoma
    Died 1989
    Turlock, CA
    Enlisted January 27, 1942
    VFW #5059

    My questions are:
What are those medals and that cord in the uniform photo?
What unit would he have been with?

    Thanks!

Hard to tell but it looks like a whistle and chain with a marksmanship badge underneath. Maybe an MP.

Unfortunately, there don't appear to be any visible insignia to ID a unit. chibober's suggestion of an MP is plausible.

That photo of Leo in uniform was taken August of 1942, and he was already a corporal after 8 months in the Army.
