I just thought I would give anyone interested an update and timing for info from NPRC.

I completed the required application on the web on 1/21/2011 and sent my signed copy out the next day. I sent an email on 2/1/2011 to make sure they received everything needed. They replied on 2/3/2011 that the estimated time of completion would be 7/7/2011.

I received a letter on 3/19 saying they could not reconstruct the file because of the fire. The alternate record that can be sent is a Final Pay Voucher and that I would need to send $60 for them to reproduce it. ($60 seemed high but I sent it).

The good news is the request for his service awards has been approved. They gave me a case number to check status online and the current status is "Your request contains awards which are currently not in stock. As soon as inventory is replenished, we will complete your request. However, we can not estimate an approximate ship date at this time. We apologize for this delay."

Overall I'm surprised that I heard back from them so quick. Here are the following awards they are sending:

Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 silver service star and 3 bronze service stars, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Germany clasp and Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII.

I also found information on the "sweetheart pin" that he sent to my Grandmother. One end is the 9th Division and the other end is the 60th Infantry Unit Crest with the line "To The Utmost Extent Of Our Power"...although his Separation Papers shows what appears to be Company M 19th Armored Inf Battalion. Any basic info on the 9th / 60th would be appreciated.

And finally I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that helped me back in January when I was looking for information.

    Take care,

    Gil Cartwright

Congrts on receiving the information. I am happy that you can receive the information for you and your family to preserve the memory of your family member and the sacrifices he made for our country.
