Hi, Does anyone know what this monument is or its significance? It seems to be associated to the Freikorps document as the monument appear to be the same. Thank You for any help given. Greetings, Ibrahim, Singapore.
daheim & unterwegs - Reise & Freizeit - Hermannsweg Hermannsdenkmal Das 55 Meter hohe Monument - eine Phantasiegestalt des Cheruskerfürsten Armin - wurde nach jahrzehntelanger Vorarbeit (Erbauer Ernst v. Bandel) im Jahre 1875 im Beisein von Kaiser Wilhelm I. eröffnet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermannsdenkmal The monument commemorates the Cherusci war chief Arminius and the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in which the Germanic tribes under Arminius recorded a decisive victory in 9 AD over three Roman legions under Varus. Construction for the 53.46 m (173.39 ft) tall statue was started in 1841, but not completed until 1875 with the help of substantial funds from the state of Prussia. It was built according to plans by the sculptor Ernst von Bandel.
