Daniel, If memory serves, the 53rd Infantry Division was Welsh and landed on D-Day. I'll have a better look for you later. You should also try www.regiments.org Regards, Gordon [ 29. March 2004, 03:23 AM: Message edited by: The_Historian ]
Its hardly a list, but the 3rd Monmouth Light Infantry battalion (part of 159th Brigade //11th Armoured Div.) Landed on the 13 June. Rgds
You could well be right, but I think the 53rd landed a little after D-Day itself. J M Brereton's History of The Royal Regiment of Wales says they came ashore on 27th June. Though no single source can be utterly relied upon, Brereton is pretty good. Bit of an aside to this stream, but Brereton also says that 2nd Battalion The South Wales Borderers was "the only Welsh unit in action on the D-Day beaches." I wonder if 2 SWB were the only Welsh unit to land on D-Day, or if others landed on 6th June, but were not heavily engaged (eg logistic units)? Shd probably start this as a seperate thread, but if anyone here knows I'd be grateful to hear. With thanks in anticipation, Alan
