Well, here is my favourite:



GEORG FRIEDRICH HÄNDEL (1685-1759)

He is not just one of the greatest composers of all times. I love baroque music and he's my favourite, because his music makes me really quiet and happy, or even excites me when I listen to it, and even more when I SING him.

And by the way, I don't care what the British say, he's GERMAN.

 

Yeah and how about Mozart and J.S. Bach as well F ? I luv Classical music especially instrumentation like Lauten Musik. Also the opposite which is Schwere Metal like Metalica and Megadeath, Agent Orange and guitar licks by Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Gary Hoey.....I wonder if any of these guys would play solo with any of the great Classical orchestra's. Now that would be something Wilde !!!!

Johann Pachabel is my favorite, his "Canon in D" is a classic. I also like Johann S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi and Ludwig Van Beethoven.

 

Well, yes, Beethoven, Mozart, nice guys! But I can't sing them... But I can sing Bach!

Steve, Pachelbel's canon is the most beautiful thing on Earth when played OK. In my concerts, we always SING the canon at the end and at the beginning it is played by the orchestra!

I also love Céline Dion...

And I love "Metallica" two, specially their symphonic version with SF Philarmonic. I love "Rammstein" and "Lacrimosa" (German groups), and the British "Theater of..." (Damned, forgot the rest).

But my favourite is classical, the modern heavy groups are listened in this place not by me only. There's somebody who can't live with them...

I love classical music and guitar rock/punk music.

Classical:
Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Weber and a little bit Wagner.

Guitar/Punk: Jesus and Mary Chain, Pixies, Nofx, Replacements, Samiam.

 

Can't go wrong with the Classical stuff. Love Pachabel as well, played it at the wedding. Love Dvorak's Romance in F (?). So fragile.

If I go chronological; I love swing (One of you ever saw the movie Swingkids?)/jazz/bebop. Can get really excited about that. Name 'em, I love 'em. Parker, Ellington, Monk, Coltrane, Bird, Duke...List goes on...

70's (Industrial) Rock...

80's pop, 'cause I grew up on it and really appreciated it when it was gone.

Have a wide appreciation of musical styles. Like teh Proclaimers, Beautiful SOuth (not everything) and Housemartins. Was into the Smiths, but ain't depressed anymore. Can also appreciate the heavy stuff, or schwere, as Erich puts it..

Went to see the Dropkick Murphys a while back, sure liked them!!

Well, Im what some people might call a music slut-I listen to whatever is good-but I do focus more on Punk rock/hard rock...

I'll be danged!!! Well, I like LOTS of stuff besides punk - 40s, rockabilly, etc. Mainly punk though - Ramones #1!!! Plus Stiff Little Fingers, Clash, Descendents, Social Distortion, Screeching Weasel, Misfits, Problematics, rip-offs, WAY to many to mention. I actually think I may have more $ invested in collecting records than WWII stuff. Kinda funny though, I'm in the process of making a tape of punk songs with WWII topics (Like "rat patroll" by naked raygun, etc.)

 

My favorite is classic rock but I do listen to a little bit of everything.

I do not like:
Country and Western
Hip Hop or any derivative.

 

What about military songs as the Horst Wessel song and Ich hat ein Kameraden? Not suitable for a party but they sound good

Can't say I listen to any classical, except when the girlfriend breaks out the operas...

Myself.. 80s punk and hardcore, reggae, some techno type stuff... random good stuff. A little Eminem is always fun...

Kai- AC/DC? I would have guessed myself to be the only one with any of their CDs on the shelf!
Who Made Who is undoubtedly one of the greatest albums ever...

Seeing as how it seems a few of us are into the punk/hardcore realm, any bands? Any specifics? As far as punk goes, I happen to love early Social Distortion- Mommy's Little Monster is a phenomenal album...

Boston eh? Who's from there.....The Real kids, Queers, GG Allen, heheheheheh. He's a freakin weirdo. Johnathan Richmond....sinkhole...that's all I can think of. Course, I mainly like older stuff. Indiana just has Axl Rose, Michael Jackson, and my local guy, John "the couge" Mellencamp. He just walked accross the parking lot of my aparment the other day. To bad I hate him or I'd have said hi. We DID have the problematics though, GREAT band.

 

Hey Doc... I was into lots of the local boston hardcore bands, but that was years ago. One that does stick out would be Overcast- more death metal, but those guys really rock. I used to see them live when they were starting...
And there was SlapShot, Sam Black Church... good stuff there...
There was one old band- Arise- I don't even know if they ever put anything out besides a demo, but they were one of the greatest hardcore bands ever...
Question for you- I mentioned S.D.- do you know of any other bands that are similar to Social Distortion, especially the early stuff? That whole kind of blues/punk sound? I'd love to find a couple more albums with a similar sound to "Mommy's Little Monster"...

 

Call me as strange as anyone but--I like a littel of everything. I especially like two language songs--i.e. Christmas Dream by Perry Como (English/German) Memories of Heidelburg by: Cannot think of her name at the moment, Eng and German)

I love Jazz--especially the Russian Jazz from the early 1950s period, Satchmo, Count Basie and Judy Garland. David Benoit and others.

Rock-n-Roll: Elvis, Beetles, Chicago, Beach Boys, Little Richard, Wings, etc.

Country and Western the older stuff, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Sons of the Pioneers, Tex Ritter w/ songs like Cool Water, Boots and Saddles, Back in the Saddle again, Rose of San Antone which believe it or not--I heard on a German radio station when I was in Dingelsdorf Germany, Tumbling Tunbleweeds, Yellow Stripes etc.

Big band: Tommy Dorsey, and others.

Classical: Beethoven, Mozart etc.

Old German music (any)

Music that sounds like its from another country but really isnt like the thematic music for the movie: "Red Heat" called: "Strangers on the Shore" by; Acker Bilk--it sounds Russian.

I especially like Cole Porter tunes and the ones which were redone on an album called: Red Hot and Blue.

Wartime German music--or old Kamerade type music like: Im Feldquartier, and many others.

I like SOME Polka, which is more like German Beer Drinking music--which I also love. Ein Zwei Sofa......

 

Dropkick Murphys...from Boston...Guess you have to have Irrrrrish roots to appreciate...

And please, don't say Classic: Mozart, Beethoven, etc. That etc is not right at all! There are many things you might like and dislike in such a large sort of music as the classical is. But it is fine, at least it is still listened.

And Crazy (and everyone else), don't dare to say anything wrong about the opera! If you don't want to meet the REAL angry Friedrich !!!!!
