Hi all, I hope I have posted in the right part of the forum?

I Know this is a bit of a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell which Medals my Grandad would have had from this photograph. My Mum found the photo a few days ago, and since we dont have his medals, I really would like to get some, but dont know which ones they are.

We know he went to Egypt in 1941, as we also found his diary, which he wrote dates as he passed ports from Liverpool to Egypt.

another thing I was wondering, is that the photograph is of a group of about 50 men, (there is no details at all, but I know while in Egypt my Grandad was a Leading Aircraftsman with HQ 206 Group, however I dont know when this was taken) and I thought it would be an idea to put it online somewhere, so others could perhaps identify members of their family? so if anyone knows where I can put it, id appreciate the tip.

    Many Thanks for your time

    Best Wishes

(sorry im not sure if I have attached the photo correctly - first time poster )

    Welcome Adele,
There are some outstanding folks on here and I have no doubt you will get some answers. Post as much information as you can to flesh out his travels. I'll voice a request to have you post his dairy if you would be willing to. We're always interested in the words of a soldier as they were written.

It's really difficult to tell about the ribbons from this photo, but look at the WW2 ribbons and see if you can match them. British Ribbon List
The WW2 ribbons are about half way down the page. Good luck, and let us know what you discover. I'll echo Biak and ask that you post what you can.

    Hi,

Thank you both for your replies, I will have a go at writing up from his diary, its quite small, and my Grandfather wrote in tiny little letters, some of the words, I have no idea what they say.

With regards to the ribbon list, thank you for the link, have had a peek, but Im still pretty clueless! As You say, the photo isnt much help, but I thought it would be worth a shot.

    Thanks again, and best wishes

    Adele

    Adele,

Try posting the pic over at WW2Talk.com. There are a few more British eyes there and they might can help you there if you strike out here.
