    Thank you Jeff and your really amazing ;-)) Also, I wonder if he still lives (can't think of the name of the place at the mo) but I heard that in the same area, there was a gut who made a museum of sorts dedicated to the German Army in WWII-but doubt this was he.

    Yes that was interesting. What Herr Knapp was correct about junior officers commanding divisions. When my grandfather came out of the Hospital, he was assigned to the 38th SS PzGdr div. It was only a regiment in size and had 5 commanding officers assigned to it but never showed up. Until then, it was commanded by two SS Obersturmbannfuhrers who shared the duty. Yet, they received orders as if they were a 'real' division with a 'real' commanding general.
