I want to learn more! I've read several books about the American involvement on D-Day and the American battles of Europe, but it has come to my mind lately that my knowledge of the British battles is very limited. Therefore, I've come to ask you, my dearest experts and nerds, to help me find a book that will fill me up with valuable information. I would like suggestions of two kinds of books: - A book where you get to follow a certain British unit through the war. Or: - A book that gives overall information about the British involvement in the battle of France. I want two things out of these books: information and excitement. Now, I would love to hear your recommendations. I searched the forums and I did not find a existing thread about this, if there is one, please delete this thread and PM me about it. /Erik Halldin
D-day the complete addition. Details all units involved from the Germans to the Canadians. As well as battle maps, true stories or survival as well as first hand accounts of the battle from all sides. It goes into depth of the amount of time and resources that were employed to avoid the Germans catching on, and the preperations of the landings themelves, from the navy taking sand samples. A great book and very imformative.
Thanks, his book Overlord sure seems interesting. I also found this book: D-Day 1944, Sword Beach and British Airborne Landings by Ken Ford, which is quite exactly what I'm looking for. I will look around and order a few books later on. Here's my list so far: Pegasus Bridge by Stephen Ambrose D-Day 1944, Sword Beach and British Airborne Landings by Ken Ford Overlord: D-Day and the Battle for Normandy by Max Hastings
Sorry I got the name wrong, I don't have a link but the full name of the book is "D-day, The Greatest Invasion, A People's History." By Dan Van Der Vat, what a name.
This probably doesnt fit into your exact requirements, but as a general feed book, will give you details and reference points while reading others. Raising Churchills Army by David French. Again not a record of D-Day but possibly one to have beside you when your reading any others if your not a British national and need to do any research on terms or folk, regiments and places etc.
Thanks! Doesn't seem easy to get ahold of in Swedish online bookstores, but if I find it, I'll definitely look into it. Edit: The reply was for urgh. Thanks for your recommendation Steve!
