Panzers in Normandy is so-so, when it first came out it was great and still is but really just an introductory book, many the photos have been seen elsewhere, and increased in volume size of pics in later Panzer Regiment histories within their own Panzer Divisions

I still get out the Battle of the Bulge book around Novembers end to keep me on top of the news of the time(s), still a monster classic.

are you looking into purchasing the Berlin then and now.

Several of our forum members would agree although pricey the books from AtB are quite well thought out and worth every cent

They are still unique in their field - and if you're visiting the areas in question, they are absolutely essential. My copies of 'Battle of Britain', 'Battle of the Bulge', 'Ruckmarsch' and 'Market Garden' have accompanied me on numerous field trips - and 'Airfields of the Eighth' ( the first I bought back in 1978 ) is almost falling apart, it has been carried around to many lonely places in all weathers .

The latest addition to the field, Falklands War Then and Now, is absolutely stunning.

My fave is Blitzkrieg in the West, but then I'm a nut about the 1940 campaign.

I think what's remarkable about the series, apart from the detective work and those comparative images, is the dispassionate text. There's no passing judgment. The reader is left to think for him or herself.

I only ever managed to acquire The Blitz-Then and Now vol.1, but it's worth it's weight in gold.

Drew, i'm looking forward to hearing you opinions about those books.

Currently in still reading: Island of Fire-taking it a bit slowly and reading no more than about 10-15 pages per day. However, it's over 600 glorious pages in length.

After that, im going to be usind Michael Dorrs book on CCC in old Recipients and cross-refrancing the info with other books I have before saying much else about it except that it is one hell of a nice book.

Currently, im awaiting the English version of Fellgiebels book to come in. After that one arrives, I will be getting Patzwalls books on the DKiG guys. I think those two volumns also cover the DKiS guys too? at least im-a-hoping they do. These books were done with the collaberation of Veit Scherzer-who has many excellent titles which I will be listing here or in the E/Front books thread-when I can find the time.

Lord Noodles, im interested in hearing your opinions on the Budapest title-which is one on my "to-get" list.

    Take care mate--C.

Which ones would you like my views on matey?

If I'm honest they are hard to criticise. I only heard about them at the end of last year and in 3 months I've spent nearly £450 on publications lol

Note to self: Get a job :)

    Cheers

You won't regret buying the Market Garden set..I finished it yesterday and I'd say it's up there for the best one I've read so far.

I'm sure I will get round adding them to the others at some point. How do you rate the Blitz ones?

Edit: having just said the above, I have found copies of both Market Garden volumes at reduced prices so they will be in my hands soon.

    Hucks,

The 3 volumes on the Blitz ones are excellent...almost every bomb dropped on Britain is recorded....well perhaps not every bomb but every raid.....

If you see them at reduced prcies get them...but then again I'm biased...I have every issue of the magazine, most of the books, my name is in the Arnhem ones for helping and I've contributed an article to hte magazine......all for no money!

Well it looks like the Blitz ones will be next in line then! I have a family interest in that area as my father was a youngster in London's East End during the Blitz and lived in one of the worst hit areas, Silvertown.

I have a handful of the magazines but despite promising myself that I will I never seem to get round to ordering the back issues.

I've only just got the Blitz ones last month for my birthday. It will be a while before I read them now. I have a medical exam coming up soon so I need to revise for that.

Airborne-I did have a sneek peep in them and was quite disappointed that there is nothing in the index of my house that was bombed and the chap who got a George Medal for saving people on my old street. Hopefully there'll be a mention when I get round to reading them.

They do look good none the less.

    Cheers

AFAIK the 'Blitz' set ( which I have ) is the most comprehensive survey available of the bombing of Britain in WWII - I know of nothing else like it. The volumes also contain much useful information such as the different types of bombs and fuzes used, etc.

Getting a collection of back isuues of ATB together can be a costly process ( I started buying them from #1 in 1974 ! ). You can occasionally find them secondhand at militaria fairs at low prices and if so, they're worth grabbing.....
