I just picked up a copy of a book called Pacific Campaign: The US-Japanese Naval War 1941-1945 by Dan van der Vat. Does anyone know anything about either the book or the author? I just started to read it, and I'm wondering if it's worth the effort. It seems pretty comprehensive, but I don't know much about the author's background. It seems he is primarily a journalist.

    Hello,

Van Der Dat wrote a book on the German battlescruiser GOEBEN which is pretty good as an introduction to that episode, and another on the scuttle of the High Seas Fleet at Scapa Flow. They're not bad books at all, IMHO.
I do not know anything about the author's background. HTH

I've got his D Day and Pearl Harbor books. Both excellent.
