I am looking for a book on the Marine Corps Raiders during World War II and I am also looking for a good book or books on tank battles during WWII. If anyone could help me out that would be great.
Do you mean specific tank battles or a sort of general overview of alot of battles? For the latter there is a book called Tank versus Tank (ISBN: 0753705443 // 978-0753705445) which is quite cheap on Amazon. I haven't read it, and at 195 pages it seems a little slim, but that may be a good place to start. For the former there are quite a few books out there, I think there may even of been a thread on here listing some - or it may of been on another forum, I can't remember off the top of my head! But three that spring to mind are.. Zitadelle by Mark Healy (ISBN: 978-1-86227-336-8) - a new(ish) book and probably the best book about the battle at Kursk. The Bloody Triangle by Victor J Kamenir (ISBN: 978-0-7603-3434-8) - another new(ish) book about the tank battles in the Ukraine in 1941. I am still reading this (only a few pages in) so I can't give a review of it but a member wrote a review for this in another thread in this section... www.ww2f.com/wwii-books-publications/29525-i-spent-most-today-doing-not-only-me-but-other-fans-eastern-front-7.html#post385783 Panzerschlact by Perry Moore (ISBN: 978-1-906033-16-3) - about the tank battles on the Hungarian Plains in late 1944. I have yet to read it although it has been sitting on my shelves for a while now. Hope this has been of help.
Edson's Raiders: The 1st Marine Raider Battalion in World War II: Joseph H. Alexander: Amazon.ca: Books
If you are still interested in tanks, I suggest Hell on Wheels. It's about the mighty 2nd armored division and is chock full of information. Sadly though, the author's name escapes me...Another good book about armor is Death Traps by Belton Y. Cooper.
