I really prefer eye level books more than top down ones. Heres 3 recommendations anyway. Monte cassino by Matthew Parker,(best wwii 2 book ever) Amazon.com: Monte Cassino: The Hardest Fought Battle of World War II: Matthew Parker: Books tales by japanese soldiers(100% eye level) Amazon.com: Tales By Japanese Soldiers: Kazuo Tamayama: Books hitlers enforcers(great book) Amazon.com: Cassell Military Classics: Hitler's Enforcers: Leaders of the German Machine 1939 -1945: James Lucas: Books
Island of Fire by: Jason Mark. This is one that is about the battle of the factories @ Stalingrad. You WILL regret not reading this book. Hardcover is sold out and has been for months now but you can still get a softcover fairly easily.
Last Man Out by Bob Wilbanks. It is about the Palewan Massacre. I'll be posting a review in the next few days but it is a book well worth reading.
Hitler's War from Magenheimer, very readable, gives Germany' key strategic decisions 1940-1945,although I disagree with many of his conclusions. "Military errors of world war II" from Kenneth Macksey ,interesting pages on the U Boatwar.
You might want to take a look at Jason Marks site which is I THINK is www.leapinghorsemanbooks.com or something like that? Anyway, every title he has done has been excellent to say the least.
C. Evans said it all, you won't get more "eye level" than this one. I bought it on a recommendation from C.Evans and halder, and i'm just speechless/overwhelmed with it. The highest recommendation possible. By the way C. your eastern front thread has been asleep for a long time, a pity....
The Rising Tide and The Steel Wave, both by Jeff Shaara. Heavily researched, funny, exciting... for me anyway lol
Hi L/ Thank you on both accounts. I keep meaning to post more titles in that thread but have not had time to do so. The new titles i'd like to post are wither German language and or some E/Front LW airwar titles (for Erich and LW book fans Just haven't had enough time lately especially since I didn;t have internet for a week. I've been here since about 8Pm and its now after 2AM-and still not finished getting cought up yet ;-) PS, glad you liked the book. It held me captive and I forced myself to read no more than about 20 pages at a sitting-after I read almost 100 pages the first day ;-))
I recommend Die Abenteuer des Werner Holt by Dieter Noll. It's the depiction of the conflict from the perspective of a young German soldier. I read only the first part, but the second one is believed to be a kind of socialist propaganda. It's not the documental book, it's just a really good novel.
Armageddon by Max Hastings. Armageddon: the battle for Germany ... - Google Books Or for that matter-pretty much anything by Max Hastings.
the villa, the lake, the meeting.wannsee and the final solution,by mark roseman.. on 20th jan 1942 the most murderous meeting in history took place, story of reinhard heydrichs meeting with top nazi officials in order to clarify the final solution..
I highly recommend Jeff Shaara's books The Rising Tide, The Steel Wave, and No Less Than Victory. You'll love them!
You proabably already know these but they are 2 of my favorite "eye level" books: Amazon.com: Company Commander: The Classic Infantry Memoir of World War II (9781580800389): Charles B. MacDonald: Books and Amazon.com: The Forgotten Soldier (9781574882865): Guy Sajer: Books I have read both many times and are really interesting personal accounts of their combat experiences. Enjoy!
