My father is 90. He is a veteran of World War II and has lots of interesting books about the war. Now that he has congestive heart failure (although he is doing well right now, thank God) and also his eyes are bad with macular degeneration, he is wanting to donate these books to someone he knows will appreciate them.

We live in a mobile home park for over-55s, and he does have one friend here who he wanted to give the books too -- but the guy is also trying to get rid of some of his! Anyway, my dad didn't just want to take these books to the library if there is someone who is specifically interested in this subject matter. We are in Northern California. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or if you're interested, you can post here, and I can send a list of these books. Thanks a million!:)

I think out of general interest of the forum you should make a listing and then we can go from there .........

You might consider checking with local colleges. You might also want to get them appraised first.

It would be a shame if these books went to waste, a public library isn't the worst idea but you could consider donating them to a legion, many veterans visit there and I'm sure they wouldn't mind taking a look at these books. Even if they don't need any more books I'm pretty sure they could guide you to a suitable place that will accept the books and put them to good use. Here is their contact information.

    The American Legion
    Department of California

401 Van Ness Ave., Rm 117
    San Francisco, CA 94102

The American Legion Department of California

958 Homestead Rd. Santa Clara, Calif. (408)244-3050
American Legion Post 419, Santa Clara - California

I know this might sound a little over the top but I think these books would do the best if they were in the hands of a legion or something similar because many more people will have access to these books. Good luck

If they're primary source documents we could put them online and then send the originals to either the Center for Military History or the Naval Historical Command.
