The non-interventionist ideas ranged from "short of war" to "total withdrawal to our own borders". Some Firsters want to outlaw travel outside the US because of the Lusitania incident. Others wanted to protect the Western Hemisphere. Some wanted to protect the "Northwest Hemisphere" (i.e., to hell with Latin America), but that presented the problem that Canada probably wouldn't co-operate (even with Plan Red. :D)

They weren't cohesive and didn't have a solid program. No wonder that in Nov. 1941 86% of those polled said they'd not vote for an America First candidate (Same numbers when "Lindbergh" was substituted for "America First", btw.)

Todays edition includes a positive speech made by Churchill only ten weeks into the fighting. Italy hadn't joined but German troops were massing at the Allied borders. Things were about to change. Churchill - always resolute

You need to contact Homer j Simpson at the site. You may need to join Freerepublic. to do so- I don't know for sure. Joining is as easy as it was here. I go there daily to start my news search.

    Take care

You don't happen to have any from 1942 around April? Or know of a website where you can view scans from that time? Thanks.
