There are pictures, but you can't use your color crayons on them.

They're not those kinds of pictures, Brad.

Wow. Nice! It has probably been really cool helping the development of a very "diffrent" book, sounds cool I will look in to purchasing it

An outstanding book. I'm nearly done, and the depredations experienced by the common German soldier and the lack of support is astounding. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wishes to gain a sense of what it was like on the Eastern Front. I must admit that my knowledge of that area of the war is limited, but it is hard to imagine any other author matching Hans Roth's chilling descriptions of his life on the front lines.

Around the halfway mark, it seemed that his outlook was one of resignation, that he knew the likelihood of seeing the end of the war was not going to be.

The twists of fate. Transferred out of the ratzenkrieg at the right time. These interesting ironies never cease to amaze. He was lucky to get those journals out, we are lucky to have this book.

I'm about halfway through this myself...bought it solely on recommendation from a friend not realizing some of the forum members here had contributed. I'm at the part where he describes the living conditions in the huts in the dead of bitter winter. Wow. I have no words...the best I can do is try to imagine what it was like and I'm sure that I cannot come close. Thanks to all who helped to get this out. I hope there are more to come!

I bought this book because it looked interesting, and then when I opened the book after it came in the mail, I noticed the "thanks to [insert names] from www.ww2f.com"!! How exciting! It is really a unique and honest book, and I like the format of the journal, it's like the reader is living day by day right next to Hans Roth. Congratulations to Christine and everyone here who helped! That is what our collective knowledge on this subject of history is for - preserving the past and the stories of the men who shared it. Very noble, in my opinion :)

Several of us helped Christine editing it and providing background information.

Well, I noticed some rogueish references in the acknowledgements section, but I shan't let that ruin the book for me.....:D
