Went up to Duxford today with my Dad in glorious weather to attend the launch of the latest book from a member of this forum - Airborne Medic. His latest book deals with the little-known exploits of the fledgling British Airborne forces in North Africa in late 1942. A most entertaining presentation was well-attended by enthusiasts, researchers , ex-Airborne men and of course, publishers Helion Books. Martin, Thanks...a very serious audience because it was a very serious talk to a very very seriously knowledgable crowd....at least four authors in the audience, several veterans and people who have carried out extensive research into the airborne forces! If anyone wants ordering details etc please pm me......nice photos...a bit disconcerting to see all those cameras going off at various times.....I hope the selection of pictures was ok.....
What I failed to mention was that the launch took place ( very appropriately ) in the 'Airborne Assault' museum at Duxford ( formerly the Airborne Forces collection which was based at Aldershot ). Unfortunately, the combination of lighting and glass display cases made photography a nightmare, but the collection of relics, equipment and smallarms was most impressive - the reconstructed Horsa nose section visible in one of my photos gives a flavour......
