I have a question, is there a PTO equivalent to Cornelius Ryan or Rick Atkinson?

The Rick Atkinson equivalent will probably be Ian Toll. I say "will", because his "Pacific Crucible" is the first book of a three book trilogy on the Pacific War - the other two have not been released yet

I think I agree. I read Pacific Crucible, and found it both readable and informative. Hornfischer, while good, seems to be more of a "snapshot" writer.
