I just finished "Inside the Gas Chambers: Eight Months in the Sonderkommando of Auschwitz" by Shlomo Venezia and "Eyewitness Auschwitz" by Filip Muller. I am about to start on "Auschwitz" by Deborah Dwork and Robert Jan van Pelt. I highly recommend these to anyone interested in the history of Auschwitz. Buzz
Hey Andy, have you read Ryan's "The Longest Day"? If you like C. Ryan's books you'll probably like Stephen Ambrose's books as well. His "D-Day" was a good read. Buzz
hey Buzz, Nope havn't read any of his other books, but might get round to it now as I enjoyed this one alot. ya I have read a few of Ambrose's books also but it was some years ago- so there a little foggy in the memory
Amazon.com: Interrogations: The Nazi Elite in Allied Hands, 1945 "Overy presents excerpts of the pretrial interrogations that provided the Allies with much of the information they needed to convict those responsible for the war and its atrocities. Overy's descriptions of the interrogations and illuminating commentary reveal the leaders of the "master race" to be weak-willed cowards. It was typical for the primary defendants to deny responsibility for the barbarity that occurred right under their noses or to feign incredulity that such fantastic cruelty could even occur."
Just began Whirlwind (the bombing campaign against Japan in WWII) after reading "Tears in the Darkness" a book which absolutely blew me away while reading about the POW situation after the PI were invaded. Ben Steele was the main character followed through out the book. I plan to post a book report later.
Just picked up "Japanese Destroyer Captain," by Capt, Tameichi Hara (with Fred Saito and Roger Pineau). Looks to be an interesting read.
The latest Civil War Times Illustrated just hit the mailbox. Good thing, I was getting tired of thumbing through the Duluth Trading Post catalog in the bathroom.
Didnt start Whirlwind; instead now reading "Pacific Alamo..the Battle for Wake Island" by J Wukovits. So far the story is leading up to Dec 7/8th attacks on various Pacific installations with major character background stories on how and why they were on Wake Island.
My 20 year old niece flunked out of college and moved in with me to look for a job. I decided to move my smut collection to a more secluded spot.
Just finished "Luftwaffe encore" by Kenneth Wakefield. Recommend if you wish to read on two Luftwaffe bombing raids during BoB , one successful, one total failure. Luftwaffe Encore: Amazon.co.uk: Kenneth Wakefield: Books
Ive got surviving Treblinka by Samuel Willenberg. Has any one read it ? Im a bit skeptical on some holocaust-esque books due to the fabrication that seems to follow some areas of the subject. Ive had this book for quite some time, Ive read the Amazons reviews on it and some seem to think its just a story.
