    Best German unit on the beachheads.
    Not the case with British landings and Utah where the tanks shot in the infantry. Read the official history and you'd see how the surviving DD Shermans literally turn the table and silenced German machine guns.

    Considering the first wave was virtually destroyed, yes, it would make difference. Part of the problem on Omaha was command and control, troops landed on the wrong section of the beach, and didn't know who's in charge and what to do. The Americans had this battle rehearsed down to the rifle company where everyone must know his part of the sand. Sadly it was in vain.
