The state is going to Dry-Berth her for long term survival. The climate down here is none too forgiving for the old girl. Hate to see it, but it is for the best to preserve her.

I last visited her and the San Jancinto Monument about 6 years ago. They had more of the ship open for inspection then my first visit in 1981.

The San Jac Monument is also worth the visit. In the base of the obelisk is a 'movie' theater that shows not a movie but a slide show, but its so well crafted you can't tell the difference. Best part its narrated by Chuck Heston! There is also a small museum in the base as well with replica's of the Twin Sister's and a fair collection of period artifacts. You can go to the top of the monument in an elevator, if your brave enough as it seems nearly as old as the Texas herself, for a great view of the Texas.

 

When I was stationed at Ft. Hood we went to San Antonio (Lackland and Kelly AFBs) to “chase” women.
The “serious work” comes after you catch the women and your liver quits!

 

Yeah, I was stationed at Ft. Sam a couple of times and TDY there several others.
