I doubt it. 5.56x45mm NATO vs 5.45x39mm Soviet. You do the figures on which is likely to require the less carrying...
Apparently many Russian soldiers in Chechnya were disappointed with the performance of the 5.45mm round, and reverted to using old AKM's instead... It just didnt posess the knock-down capability of the larger round, despire beign more "lethal"... Russian soldiers also claim that the 7.62mm soviet achieves superior penetration to the newer 5.45mm round... And if anyone would know it would be them ... Interesting link: Martin Andrew: The Russian Experience of Urban Combat http://www.defence.gov.au/army/lwsc/Abs ... ndrews.pdf P.S.Somebody has to tell me about this Vzlomshchik 12.7mm sniper rilfe :kill:
. Simon , I didn't compare the 5.56 and the 5.45 but the ~ 5.5 class and the ~ 7.5 class caliber the stories about the ~ 5.5 round lacking stopping power are widespread , it could be soldier superstition but if it make the troops unhappy , it has military relevance , there is nothing worst for morale than feeling one's gear is a dud and no amount of administrative tut-tuting will change that as for heavy duty sniper in the .50 class http://world.guns.ru/sniper/sn50-e.htm http://world.guns.ru/sniper/sn72-e.htm the second one is real fun but for police work not military ( doh ! ) and this one for the maple leaf crowd http://www.thedonovan.com/archives/week_2004_05_30.html INFANTRY: Long Range Sniping and Thin Air June 3, 2004: When the .50 caliber (12.7mm) sniper rifle was introduced in the 1980s, it was expected that records for the longest range sniper shot would regularly be broken. That finally happened, in Afghanistan on March 2-1, 2002. A team of Canadian snipers (Master Corporal Graham Ragsdale, Master Corporal Arron Perry and Corporal Dennis Eason of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry), using the .50 caliber MacMillan Tac-50 sniper rifle, got at least one kill at 2,400 meters. There were several others at ranges nearly as long. The previous record had been 2,250 meters, set by U.S. Marine Gunnery Sgt. Carlos Hathcock in Duc Pho, South Vietnam in 1967. The Hathcock shot was also made with a .50 caliber weapon, but this was not the modern .50 caliber sniper rifle, but a standard M-1 .50 caliber machine-gun with a scope on it. The previous records, many with poor documentation, with 7.62mm caliber sniper rifles, rarely exceeded a thousand meters. Technically, the 12.7mm sniper rifle is only accurate enough for consistent hits at up to about 1,800 meters. The Canadians, and all modern snipers, use custom built rifles and ammo for their work. Hathcock had another disadvantage, he was firing in hot and humid Vietnam, while the Canadians were firing in the thin (at 11,000 feet) and cold air of Afghanistan. The hot, humid lowland air provides more resistance, and distortion, for a bullet. With that in mind, Hathcock always insisted that the shot was as much luck as skill. The Canadian shots were all skill, as they killed nearly two dozen Taliban and al Qaeda fighters at ranges of around 2,000 meters.
Greig 7.62x39 is not hunting ammo,so it is reasonable that is not suitable for hunt Actualy zastava got some nice hunting carabines http://www.zastava-arms.co.yu/english/civilni.htm and they r preety good quality i can guarantee u for that.Last year Mikhail Timofeevich Kalashnikov was wisiting Serbia, and he sayed that zastava AK-47 is in the top of world quality, only Russian and hungarian was betther by his claims. Otther thing 12.7mm sniper rifle. That become common heawy sniper caliber in 12.7x99 (brownning) and 12.7x107DSHK (zastava made then in bouth variants),but some use eawen heawyer calibers, like croatian i think 20mm rifle.
America, you had better getting some X-Wings for your air force, AT-ATs for your army, M16A2/AK47 hybrids for your guns, and clone troopers for your soldiers. This is pathetic! If the USA and Russia ever fought a full out war, the USA would be completly obliterated like the Death Star hit 'em in 2 minutes. Check that, 2 nanoseconds! Russia, we are pleased to present you with an award for vaporizing all the other countries of the world, not to mention the Empire, and ruling the universe!!!!!! World, prepare to surrender because the Russians have the power to blow the everything out of NATO, from armies to navies to that bacon and eggs that the soldiers were gonna' have for breakfast. Then again, we could all just get Russian citizenships if we want to barely survive their unstoppable wrath...
Sounds like this is intended to be extremely sarcastic and/or to ignite an extremely nasty nationalistic argument. Either way it is hard to believe this is coming from a 10 year old.
looks like he never heard of total mutual destruction, he thinks that the usa would not do anything in case of an attack, silly lil boy,
Silly lil boy!? How offensive, Me262.   Sometimes, it's guys like you that make me wish I never joined this darn forum.
Not at all young Blaster, I for one appreciate your company Unfortunately on these forums, if you make any comment which is even mildly critical of America in any way, you have to expect the possibility of offenseive replies.... I'm sure you're age has actually spared you the worst of it
Maybe I have a tendency to intepret things wrong, but I have yet to see a comment which can be taken as a serious offensive stab at America... Blasters certainly wasn't... Can you actually point me to any? There's a difference between being critical and being offensive which I think is sometimes confused...
birthday Now then young Blaster, per-lease, when IS your birthday? Send the answer by PM if you wish but don't expect a reply as I don't send PM's to schoolchildren. Have a nice Birthday, Grandad Merlin.
