Any known type of helicopters in ww2?

    they were produce in limited numbers,not mass productioned as in the allies

    The germans were working on a helicopter, towards the end of the war , as a desperation weapon .I'll send you some info.

    the germans started to study and produce various model from 1923 to 1945
    Fw 61
    Fl 185
    Fa 223( Fa 233 civil version)
    Fl 282
    Fa 225 ( really a hybrid of a DFS fuselage with the rotor of the Fa 223)

    I had the pleasure of seeing a Feisler Storch taking off and landing on a very short runway in Florida. The pilot said that the storch was used in the rescue of Mussolini because of its STL characteristics but the original plan had been to use a helicopter. I don't know why the helicopter wasn't used, perhaps the early ones were unreliable?

    I have never heard of a plan to use a helicopter for that rescue.
    Aside from anything else it would have been at too high an altitude for it to cope...

    I think they hade some to use as recon but actual fighting heli's didn't come out 'till korea and vietnam but they hade some idea
    and where using it
