Just wanted to add for those with little knowledge of Australians at war...that Gallipoli wasnt the only battle we were in or remembered for during WW1...Many many places saw Australians fall...8000 Australians at the battle of the Somme...IN JUST ONE DAY. Is just one example...then theres Ypres...dont get me started. Thanks Urqh...
They saved the day in the general retreat in last German offensive of ww1 in France. Held the line. They also broke my dads nose....apparantly...So he said...But thats when he was in Aussie...doing sheep...runs in families...doing as in doing sheep jobs...What is a Matilda anyway....And Biak...that smoker is pretty much like the one I picked up last week from a farmer who did pig roasts in summer...Just needs cleaning..lighting and standing well back...This Yank Brit thing is getting too close for comfort...
"And Biak...that smoker is pretty much like the one I picked up last week from a farmer who did pig roasts in summer...Just needs cleaning..lighting and standing well back...This Yank Brit thing is getting too close for comfort..." Agreed! You go take care of your sheep (it's what - Oh two early there?) I'm getting ready to go count mine.
Urqh...the song itself...the melody is quite old...and get this...it was written by a couple of Germans! The Lyrics are Australian...to Waltzing Matilda that is. Dont know how much you mob know Austrailan history...but we had people called "swagmen" back in the day (Watch a movie called the Shiralee)...They would be out of work men who would walk the country roads and tracks looking for work...(Not unlike Urqh's Dad by the sound). Getting most of their work from farms. The humble "swagman" has been immortalised by many, Banjo Patterson most notably...The song is about them, the swagmen. Matilda was the name for the swag (bedroll)...And "waltzing" it meant walking down the bush track with it...He's asking who will come for a walk with him...keep him company...
For those that may get confused with Aussie slang, As it may be around bit more then usual over then next couple days, Here is some help. Australian slang dictionary Going to be a good day tomorrow, Beer, BBQ, Mates and Collingwood vs Essondon ^^ in Footy. Hope the ANZACS kicking back in heaven and hell (hope they not in hell, For the devils sake anyway ) enjoy the game. If there one thing that can get the Aussies to march out of hell, Is a game of Footy
Know a lot of your history mate...its our shared history....The Matilda I didn't know though... My old man did his bit in ww2 in RN...then went to Merchant navy and hopped ship in Aussie...did 2 years around the place and ended up helping on a sheep farm...nothing like my enterprise...the sheep farm he was on was miles and miles he said. Mine is fields around civilisation that needs fencing...Aussie sheep farms are more like the size of Wales I believe...Mine are now in their summer grazing if anyone is interested...In sheep heaven...my own little piece of land that I don't rent but keep for summer...lake, barns..moat...I can sing to my hearts content round there and no one will hear me apart from moose and the rest of the ewes and lambs...As for your....He's asking who will come for a walk with him...keep him company.,,,,,It confirms what I always thought of the convict types...I've seen the movie about Prisillar....Oooooo...errrrrr....mr...

At my dad's funeral going to be a laugh.. We making custom coffin to look like a BBQ , His idea. Dont be sad that they are dead, Be thankful that such men (or woman to be politically correct) lived.
What'd ya' expect? Not that we need an excuse for a beer, or a Whiskey, or double Scotch. Always willing to obliged when someone requests a remembrance! Makes it even better when the request also includes the suggestion of having a BBQ or anything having to do with cooking outside. Hey there Mate; it's the 25th in Oz now so I'll pour a bit of Scotch and A Tip of My Hat to ya's!
