    Germany was the first to exploit coordinated air cover in support of mechanized infantry which is what allowed them to make the tremendous gains they did early in the war. If you look at a list of battles, with few exceptions, the Germans and Japanese were fighting defensively after 1942 in every engagement against US Forces.

    As far as technology is concerened, the US went into the War with the M-1 Garand as the standard battle rifle, the M-4 Sherman as the "Main Battle tank" and the B-17 as the primary strategiac bomber......all three of those platforms were in service at the end of the War. The US and Allies did not try to re-invent too many wheels. Most improvements were "field upgradeable" and didn't cause major impacts on the logistical side of the house.
