    Don't mention it.
It's funny how the richest source of quotes like these is signatures on forums. :D Like yours, johann, or Zhukov_2003's one, and others.

"That's how Berlin's going to look!"
~Soviet officer to survivors of German 297th Inf Div, pointing at devastated cityscape of Stalingrad after the surrender. Prophetic, no?

"A German field marshal does not commit suicide with a pair of scissors!"
~Gen. Schmidt upon Soviet confiscation of his superior (and newly appointed) Field Marshal Paulus' shaving kit, after the surrender.

""All right, they're on our left, they're on our right, they're in front of us, they're behind us...they can't get away this time!"
~Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller, USMC. Said in Korea, while his 1st Marines Division was surrounded by 20+ enemy divisions

The first time I heard about that quote, it was 8 divisions...then I looked up more stuff online and most accounts agreed that his 1st Marines destroyed 7-8 divisions fighting out of the pocket. Either way, surrounded by loads of fanatical enemies charging with bayonet and PPSh's...that's some scary stuff

    And thanks!

    More quoting goodness:

When interrogated after the war about how he could've improved the German plans for the Ardennes Offensive, Jochen Peiper (1st SS Panzer Div), replied: "We could've used our Generals better with one at every roadblock, directing traffic"

"We shall go down in history as the greatest statesmen of all time, or as the greatest criminals."
~Josef Goebbels, Propaganda Minister, in the final days of the war

"The Eastern front is like a house of cards. If the front is broken through at one point all the rest will collapse."
    ~General Heinz Guderian

"Russia is like an old house...kick the door in and the whole rotten structure will come crashing down!"
    ~Adolf Hitler

    Aye, the heights of hubris...

    SS-Obersturmbannführer Joachim Peiper
I get so tired of people, sources, books and websites misspelling this guy's name...
Good quotes though, you got any more in there?

    Best quotes

    How about Von Rundstedt

In the weeks after D-Day, when the Allies were well on their way to liberating France and had destroyed most of the German forces in the Falaise-gap, Hitler's most senior general, Von Rundstedt, answered high-command's question of what to do next with: 'Make peace, you morons!' Hitler sacked him, of course.

Roel, "Jochen" was the name Peiper himself preferred to use. Seems that "Joachim" was too Jewish for an SS officer to use.

I don't care how he liked to be called! Did Hitler enjoy being called GroFaZ? The man's name was Joachim and Jochen isn't the same.

We don´t take bad language too seriously on this forum, just as long as it isn´t directed at another member. "Perkele" is a swear word btw, isn´t it ?

Anyway, welcome to the forum Notmi. :)

Yes, "Perkele" is one synonym to Devil in Finnish and it is one of the most used swear words in my language. But I originally meant a certain F-word as bad language (it was replaced with another word after submitting). Of course, if my that location information is ever considered against forum rules, I'll change it.

Thanks, this is first forum for me where moderator or admin welcomes new members. I'll try to behave. :)

Well, Roel, you might be surprised at how many people care very much about what name they are called by. Peiper was no exception. He was an ardent Nazi, which meant that, in his eyes, "Joachim" as his first name had to go, so he chose "Jochen". And so, historians have used Jochen for the man as well, purely as a matter of logic. Freaking out at me, or someone else, for doing so as well isn't going to change that. And I prefer it when people who disagree with me do so politely, Roel. :)

Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to be impolite James. I didn't know about his personal preference, I just know his name was Joachim and thirty years after his death I feel free to use it, actually. :D

    Quotes

There are only two kinds of people staying on this beach, the dead and whose who are going to die. Let get the hell out of here!

An American Colonel on Omaha beach D-Day

If its true then it was a highly appropriate comment even though only the two guys on either side of him would probably hear it.

I came, I saw, I conquered. J Caesar (got to wonder whether he thought of the line first then went to find somewhere he could see and conquer)

Upon being informed that the Pope was going to denounce Hitler, Stalin is reputed to have said:

"And how many armoured divisions does he have?"

My personal favourite (sadly not quite WW2) is:

"We are not at war with Egypt, we are in armed conflict"
    Anthony Eden, 1956
