I am going back to the start of the war and the invasion of Poland by the Germans. Does anyone have a book they would recommend? Thank you.
Aside from my own Blitzkrieg Unleashed, there's Bill Russ' Case White which is extremely detailed - particularly useful for wargamers/serious historians. From the Polish side, Stephen Zaloga's September Campaign is very good, although it lacks the human element.
I've read it and it very good, Richard is a very good writter (read his Germans in Normandy also) so his book is a very good place to start. Also Osprey's Poland 1939 (Campaign series) is a very good place to start at 96 pages it's probably a good stepping stone into more detailed studies.
Doesn't have one, but there are copies on abe and ebay, e.g. Case White: German Army in the Polish Campaign Sep 1939 on eBay (end time 09-Oct-09 22:33:55 BST) Or you could try Bill direct. He's a regular on AHF and to a lesser extent Feldgrau.
Thank you. I will have to see if my brother can get that book for me as I refuse to use Ebay now due to someone stealing my ID on the site in 2007 and using it to sell non-existent items on the site while I was away on a deployment. Second day home after 9 months away and there was me in the police station writing out a statement explaining how it couldn't possibly of been me. Not the sort of welcome home I was thinking of!
