    And it took a great big set of hairy b*lls for those men to be there and to survive day after day. I salute them.

    It is sometimes dangerous to get into a "we did / they didn't" type of discussion. The ANZACs at Gallipoli, the Royal Newfoundland Regiment at Beaumont-Hamel, the US at Belleau Wood, The British at the Somme, the Canadians at Vimy. All of these, and more, were nothing more than meat-grinders and I, for one, will not try to set one ahead of the other. To the poor, solitary, cold soldier it didn't matter to him if he died in a 'grand' world-changing batltle or if he was the unfortunate SOB who got killed by a stray bullet on a quiet day. Every contribution is of equal value.
