They are rebuilding the museum near the Mardasson memorial, during the rebuilding process it was struck by lightning. In Bastogne is a new museum in the center of the Town. The name of the museum is:"Le Mess" and it is worth a visit. I believe they closed the museum in La Gleize last October.
    Regards,
    Frank

Believe it or not, and though they do a great job and I'm sorry to hear of the various problems, I'm actually not that much of a 'museum' person when I'm actually visiting the battle areas. The Tiger at La Gleize is, together with the Tiger 1 at Vimoutiers, one of NW Europe's most impressive WWII relics. Otherwise I'm happy to walk among the trees and foxholes, armed with my imagination......

I'm more of a 'battlefield' person myself. I usually hit the museums just to see the relics (not necessarily to 'learn' anything). The smaller museums dotted around the Ardennes (like La Gleize) are typically good for this.

That was my friend Richard from the Mosquito Museum who accompanied me on the trip. He's rebuilding a complete 12cm mortar and went to Ciney to collect the munitions crate and also to look for a deactivated 12cm bomb.

A Russian dealer had one, you can see it here......

and I couldn't resist snapping this photo when Richard asked the price ; the expression says it all.........

The guy wouldn't go below 150 Euros. Later in the afternoon, we found another one being offered by a Polish dealer who accepted 90 Euros, so that one came back to London in the crate.............

Ciney is famous for expensive prices, but well at least you can find some goodies, providing yo ustay away fro mgerman uniforms which are often very good fakes. This is why I stick at local fairs. I neve rknow what I will find but at least it isn't as infested by the fakers.
