It is 5:25pm ET on November 9, 2008. LSU and Alabama are tied at halftime. Slipdigit sits holding the arms of his chair, knuckles white from the strain. The second half cannot start soon enough.

Penn St. just lost to Iowa. They couldn't score touchdowns when they got in the red zone. They didn't want it or deserve a win today.

Mike -- You have my sympathy. That was a tough road loss.

I am glad Bama won. I had visions of the top 3 teams losing and Texas going back to number 1.

With the quality of the teams in the top 10 I will be surprised if PSU stays in. There is just no way they will stay above Oklahoma St, Oklahoma, Utah, or USC.

Mike isn't that the way it should be though ? exciting to the very end, big names getting dumped by no names like Iowa over Penn

My only problem with it is the whole losing late screws you over. Teams who lost early can make there way back in, while others dont have a chance if they lose in the last three or four weeks. PSU has no shot, while USC, Texas, and Florida all have realistic shots. Goes to show it's more of a popularity contest. I'm not thinking this way only because my team lost it's chance. I made a statement along those lines in the first couple posts in the thread. By my way of thinking Utah, and Boise should be 3 and 4. Schedules are set long before these players get to the schools. They shouldn't be punished for playing the schedule given to them to play.

I'm shocked PSU is in at 7

I'm not. They fell no further than I thought they would. What shocks me is that the Crimson Tide is still hanging in there after that error-filled tussel with the Mad Hatter and LSU.

But then again, I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. This is another week that I didn't think we'd be where we, back at the start of the season. We've locked in the Western Div of the SEC and will face Florida and that jort-wearing Heisman QB that they have in Atlanta in early Dec.

I'm not saying this as a criticism. I watched Joe Paterno at a news conference last night. He appeared almost feeble. I know the boys love him and would go to the very gates of hades for him, but how much actual "coaching" is he doing now?

I think plenty. He may not be calling the plays anymore, and hasn't for a while, but thats not really uncommon in college sports anymore. He is very active for an (almost) 82 year old. Remember he hurt his hip this year teaching the special teams how to properly do an onside kick. He is very active in overviewing and evaluating the team during practices. He even said that while in the booth he has a better view of whats going on, and feels that it gives him a better understanding of the teams strengths and weaknesses. The only thing he said he missed about being on the field is grabing one of his players and yelling "What the hell do you think your doing out there"? I'm sure he also misses telling them good job but hey, yelling is so much more fun:D

And so, Jeff, this is where my support for 'Bama must end, as I need to direct my support to the Gators in the SEC Championship Game.

I am sure you will enjoy watching Bama in the Sugar Bowl while Florida plays Texas Tech for the National Championship.

And before you complain, I am looking at another year of BC playing in the Meineke Bowl or the Humanitarian Bowl! You at least will watch your team playing in a Bowl game that was not made for TV!:eek:

Well, if Bama has to lose I hope that they will be paired up against PSU. Though I find it more likely that we will play USC in the Rose Bowl, It would be nice, if at least the part of my preseason pridiction comes true in that Bama and PSU will play each other in a bowl.

ESPN.com has PSU paired with USC in the Rose Bowl. Both of its experts have that pick as of this week. They both agree that Bama plays in the Sugar but they are divided on the opponent -- either Pitt or Boise State. Boise State is an interesting selection, as the fellow who picks Pitt to play in the Sugar has Boise State all the way down at the Humanitarian Bowl (against BC).

WHAT! Them thar's fighting words. Well, David, I guess everyone must have a cross to bear and I see that yours is misguided support for a big lizard.:D This years has been better for the Crimson Tide than I (and most others) expected. The West Division is locked in with two games left when we were supposed to finish in the middle of the pack and have 3-4 losses by now.

The Gators are look fair to middling as of late. They are going to be a good opponent Dec 6.

Are you suggesting that you now want Alabama to crawl into Atlanta with two losses, to two poorly performing teams such as Miss State and Auburn? That won't help Florida if TT is still undefeated and Florida beats a 12-15 ranked Alabama team, as they would probably be under that scenerio. You still need to be hooting and hollering for the Tide to absolutely kill their two remaining regular season opponents, to make the SEC Championship game have greater relevance.

Given other choices, I'd like to see a Nittany Lion/Tide matchup.

Well maybe it was just the clips I saw. He just looked so tired, which I guess he was. He's a good guy all around and if he is winning, y'all keep him.

No -- I would love to see Bama devour its opponents prior to the SEC Championship games and then fold when they face Florida! I am surrounded by Gator fans here and if I do not carry the flag, I will disappear mysteriously and my remains will never be discovered!
