Was there a below decks section in these or was it all just deck?

PTs? Yeah, there was bunk spaces, engine spaces, a galley of sorts, etc. Think of it as a very aggressive cabin cruiser.

The hybrids were
The hybrids were what they looked like. A transitional aircraft...the jets were not powerful enough throughout the envelope...the airframes were yet to be designed for high speed...none really were promising...

To my experienced eye that's a Sumner-class destroyer.
