She was operating with USS Saratoga, then our only operational CV in the Pacific, and they experimented with concentrating fighters on Victorious and attack planes - Avengers - on Sara. They did not end up going into combat at that time, and I have not seen reports of how the arrangement worked in exercises. AFAIK it was not repeated.
