Name any city that has completely shutdown mass transit...Our buses & cabs have always been running & buses are operating free of charge.

Patients are getting the "necessary" care they need...Ask yourself "Why hospitals have shutdown their biggest sources of income?" Although, they are vital to the Hospitals' finances, they are not vital to the patient's well-being.

...hahahahahha--you don't know how the economy works, obviously
AND---there will be permanent lay offs....
AND both companies I worked at laid off people when they were MAKING $$$ and NOT losing business---a few weeks after I started my new job, they cut a bunch of people
AND it's like a snowball going down hill--if businesses close, then the businesses doing business with them are going to have problems
...my relative is furloughed for 13 weeks
..you must have no concern for others
4,500 Seattle businesses temporarily or permanently closed during COVID-19 pandemic
LIST: Austin businesses close permanently during COVID-19 pandemic
3% of US restaurants have permanently closed due to COVID-19 pandemic, experts say
COVID-19 causing some businesses to close for good

    etc links to infinity

And...They are called "cyclical layoffs", several companies where I live do it. They hire a bunch of people to meet an order/demand, and then lay them off when it is met. Wash, rinse, repeat, until you get seniority to avoid such layoffs.

The businesses that are closed are "non-essential", ie. Not necessary. However, some are closed because too many employees were infected with COVID-19.

    As to the links...
Most of Seattle's closures are, of course, temporary.

Did you even read the Austin link?
No, of course not...Most are only closing one location(probably the lowest performer) while keeping other locations open. 2 of the "closures" were already in the works BEFORE COVID.

As to 3% of the restaraunts closing, the must be Chinese restaurants...I can't get any Chinese takeout here, they are all closed-not even open for take out.

Unemployment has been upped to 36 weeks. Unemployment has even been extended to those that do not normally qualify. Just be thankful they have unemployment insurance, that was not around in 1929.

In a city like New York where many people do not own a car or even have a driving licence, mass transit is a necessity for those who are designated as essential workers and for others who must get groceries, prescriptions or visit a health care provider.

Nor did the Governor or state government "shove" people into nursing homes, they were already there. If anybody shoved them there it was their families who chose to warehouse them there.

Perhaps if the 'I'm not responsible for anything' administration had used the two months of lead time to produce tests that actually worked and in greater number those seniors and disabled people might have been tested early and those infected been isolated at the beginning we might not have so many hot spots.

It might be time to see if they offer a tin foil MAGA hat in a larger size.

Agreed...My sister did not have a car or DL. Didn't need one, subway was 3 blocks away & bus stop was around the corner. When I went to visit, I left my car at home & took the bus up.

FYI, a monthly parking space in NYC was more than the mortgage on my house.

Not sure where YOU live but I live next to Redoubt and am surrounded by white supremacists, small w small s, who leaked into town and who will deny what they think to my face but speak with the same WS accent. We're fighting a war against an invisible killer. Under a CIC who's fame is creating disunity. We'll see how that works.

Doubt it...Except for the 2 that were already going to close before Corona.

Restaurants that had expanded before Corona, and closed during, will expand again after. If they had not been doing good business before, they never would have expanded in the first place.

You're absolutely wrong about Cuomo's order to SHOVE infectious recovering patients into nursing homes. It was an executive order to do exactly that. People that no longer needed hospital level care were shoved into nursing homes to finish their recovery, with the result that 3500 people died in those homes when the disease raced among those infirm people.

As for testing and acting ahead of the virus, every democrat in the country screamed RACIST, RACIST, RACIST, when he banned travel from China. Then went nuts again when he closed us off from Europe. AND, from the beginning we've had more testing, and still do, than any other nation on the planet. We're now supplying ventilators to the rest of the world. By any metric we are ahead of everyone else on the planet.

I think he did a pretty good job. A democrat would have acted on 'feelings' (it will seem racist if I shut down flights from China, so I won't...). I voted for Johnson last time, but seeing how well Trump has done with the economy, and how quick he was to act on this pandemic (ahead of any other nation on earth) I'll vote for him this time.

Yes, yes, and I recall your claims of rooting out racist spies on Facebook as well.

The Nightriders are gone long ago, you can relax.

Yes, you are both wrong on Cuomo's order...
He did send recovering patients to nursing homes. Why? Because there was no where else to put them...The army had not completed their ersatz hospitals & the Comfort had not arrived...Both were about a week away.

It also did not help matters that neither were accepting COVID patients. That would take another week to change.

We have the mostest, because we're the worstest.

Calling BS on that one..He was not quick to act, but he wasn't late to the party either.
