I don't agree with any of the above ! Junk food is good for you. Look at all the people who eat at McDonalds and Burger King. There is power in numbers. A big Mac, fries, and a supersize milk shake is much better tasting than a nasty old fish. The only exception is Lobster tails. :D

But I am an open minded person and if any of you want to eat fish then Za posted a nifty recipe for Octopus stew last year.

PzJgr is not a real Texan. Real Texans eat greasy bar b que. The more grease the tastier.

Ta I heard you guys in Texas have some great giant Barbecue contests. Tell you what: what about having one of these and the next time a french feast with ten courses and barrels of wine. Blasko I promise there will be some fish too. This is some of the stuff I like: Beefsteak with pepper sauce, lobster with whiskey sauce, trout with fried almonds, canard à l'orange, pheasant with cranberrie sauce. Then a trou normand (a shot of pear brandy with pear sorbet. As a desert I would suggest Normandy apple pie with caramel unless you prefer a chocolate mousse. Don't worry this is not my daily menu, but this used to be a typical wedding menu before the war in the countryside

Skipper67 - Yes, the wine (red) is a very important factor too if you keep it moderate due to flavonoids etc. Besides it has much more style than that other drink you only rent for a short while...

Ta152 - Ah, the octopus story! Yes, it's true. Tonight I'm going to make chestnut puree and on the weekend I intend to have some ram testicles and ray casserole (in separate meals, dammit!) [IMG]

Hey now! I did not say I did not eat BBQ. I have introduced the famous Texas Style BBQ Brisket here in Ohio. Forget Memphis style Pork. BEEF rules! There is only fat free food served in my house. Food where the fat flows freely :D

As I tell my Dr, I may die tomorrow but I am going to eat good today!

American by birth, Texan by the grace of God! [IMG]

Ta, you should come to France and taste our Cuisine. The mix you mentionned is like eating a burger with chocolate sauce. People actually pay fortunes in restaurants for truffles (mostly foreign tourists by the way) . I only had them once in my life, they are more expensive than Caviar. They go great with beef and red wine. French fries is however cheap daily food. They would never be served in the same place. Truffles are actually mushrooms. Snails are also a rare dish . Villagers would dig for those during the war , because they had no choice . It was cheap and yet tasteful meat (even if the aspect seems disgusting, but then forget about Mescal and all other good things)). It's a matter of being used to it. If you start looking what sausssages are made of, you might never eat them again. I sometimes have "cliché food" but only upon request from foreign vistors who actually love it. I remember one lady who kept eating and who lost weight. What else can you ask for? Actually my wife is a good cook and we have so many different dishes, that I hardly ever eat the same thing twice in a month.

Hey a burger with chocolate sauce sounds really good ! :D

You are correct about the sausage, I am sure it has lots of disgusting items in it.

You are lucky to have a good cook for a wife. Wish I had one. :(

Eating is a way of life. I actually have my own wine cellar with some 200 bottles including Champagne. However, to be honest these are for special events and for daily life I'd rather empty a few six packs. In Orleans there is an entire street with dozens of international and French restaurants. They go from classical cuisine to crepes , pizzerias, couscous, west Indian, Oriental, tandoories etc.. .There is even a Tex-Mex place with Cuervo. We also have a Japanese restaurant around the corner and the waiter is generous with Sake.

Last time I took my nephew there, he just grabbed the toy car given with the Kid's Menu, and ran to the ball pool, didn't even touch the burger. :D

I think it is okay to eat at McDonalds as long as you don't go there more than 2-3 times a month. Sometimes I look like Homer up there [IMG]

I like diversity and I enjoy spending time with family and friends around a table, knowing we will get something different and good for our health besides. This philosophy does not fit with fast food. When there is no time to chill down we go to cafetaria's or will buy a sandwich ( french bread with ham or cheese and pickles ). However the young generation is changing and finds junk food convenient .

Snails, Skipper? My Escargots à la Bourguignonne are world famous even if I can't eat them myself as I develop an awful allergic reaction (edema of the glottis, had to go to hospital twice) but I have no quarrel with making them for my friends.

Three cheers for Freedom (oops! French) Cuisine :D :D :D , fountain of civilization!

It must be frustrating being a man of taste and not being able to eat the dish you made.
Oh and by the way French fries have never been French they are from Belgium.

They will get that name to make it taste good and give it a so called romantic touch. It's marketing. Well time for me to give my wife a French kiss
