I too discovered that if you attempt to speak German then they will quickly take pity on you and start speaking English (if they can). We even got English menus in one little cafe we visited. Our most bizarre moment was asking a guy for directions. After almost 5 minutes of very bad German and lots of misunderstanding we discovered that he was, in fact English. :D

We only found 2 people who could not speak English - sadly in both cases we needed to have a fairly complex discussion with both...

Oddly, when I went to France (about 15 years ago) we discovered the same thing. Try and talk French, and they'll love you for it. However, we were in a non-tourist area, so maybe they enjoyed the novelty.

Well, I'd reccomend Norway if your budget is big enough :D

Or what do you say, Roel? He probably has the best perspective on it, seeing that he visited me there. "Europe" as a tourist destination is a huge concept to cover... even one European country is a huge concept to cover! :p

I've been in Norway too. There are still a lot of WWII bunkers there, but expect to do some serious walking to get to some of them.

Norway is absolutely beautiful, but it really depends on what you're after, and you should make choices because there isn't time to see it all.

It was unexpected that's all. We don't usually do that in North America other than SWAT teams.

ok this is for all Europeans

I would like to trade coins (sounds nerdy) but I will send you $1 in US coins (Penny,Nickels,Dimes,Quaters) and if you could send me back a doller in your currency (made preferably out of coins). If you want to do this send me you address (PM) and ill Mail my doller to you and all you have to do is send back the coins :)

I want to start a modest collection of European coins. I also have no clue about your coin system works ( I hope you guys have coins) so this is a easy time to ripe me off :) I would just like some coins thats all :)

    Thank you.
