My Grandfather was drafted during the war, shipped out to the PTO around the time the war ended. Served in the Occupation Army in Japan. His wife had 6 brothers serving in WWII, 2 saw combat, one as a B-29 bombadier and retired from the Air Force in the 1960s as a Col. One served 4 years and spent his entire time (less training) at Pensacola NAS, about 175 from home. My Grandfather's brother also served in the war in the Philipines in a Chaplain's unit. My grandmother on my father's side had two brothers and several brothers-in-law serving. One of her brothers served in the 31st Dixie Division before, during and after the war, retiring as a E-& or 8. My mom's brother served in the USAF during Vietnam and thankfully stayed stateside. His son was a Naval Aviator in the Navy during Gulf War II in the Persian Gulf. I had a multitude of grandfathers who fought in the War of Southern Independence in the 1860s. Two were wounded, one loosing his knee cap, the other took a shot through the muscle of his upper arm. Both came home with all their limbs, although the knee shot left his leg rigid at the knee. Mighty hard to farm with a locked knee.
