    Sorry I've been so long.....

Going back to Oscar Wilde; to what was he refering, when he compared it to
    "A good walk; ruined"

I may regret this (As I may have to find yet another quote!), but is it Golf?

This thread has been inactive for a while, so I hope no one minds me slipping back in here. :D

"This tank has more faults than I do."

Who said this, and what tank was he refering to?

Correct! $100,000,000,000,000,000 to Roel! Do you accept postdated, out of country, 3rd party checks?

For that much money, I'd risk it! :D

My answer was a guess, really. Churchill must have thought very little of the tank named after him! ;) (As did the Germans when they recovered one from the beach of Dieppe, by the way.)

Give me some time to come up with a good quote...

OK, I found one. I'd like to know not so much who said this (since he's fairly unknown) as when he did and in what context.

"Nous traiterons chez vous, de vous, et sans vous."
"We will negotiate at your place, about you, and without you."

I knew you would say something like this, but no. It was a different war altogether. ;)

You got me completely figured out, eh Roel? You must realize then that I know the answer! :D

How about the French surrender at Dien Bien Phu?

Doubt it, there wasn't any kind of negotiation there IIRC.

Neither. Napoleon is quite a famous character by the way, and for this quote I could name the person who said it and you'd probably be just as much in the dark. I'm afraid it's not really a famous quote, but just a quote I like (it works well in French).
As a clue, the man who said this was called Melchior de Polignac.

And, was I right? Are you still in the dark? :D

    Anyway....

At this point it had been a mere two days!!! There are whole sections on here that are inactive for longer than that!!! :D

I apologize dear Simon, I thought it had been some time (a week?) since anyone last posted. I really am sorry. If I correctly GUESS the answer, I will give the next quote to you. :D

Was it said during the Hundred Years War?
