Nice photo, Radar. I like it a lot as well. Not to be a stickler, but it looks more WW2-ish than it does contemporary. Ah, who cares. I've driven 60 mph in a 45 zone before.
Sorry for the bumping of a dead thread, but I just remembered a pic I had shoved in folders of my computer. It's a simple picture, but it always gets to me. I don't know why. View attachment 14860
Dog needs a thought-bubble: "Don' worry, bro...I gotcher back." Here's a video that I've always enjoyed. Its 10 minutes, but you won't notice them going by. The two actors deserve awards for this. Dammit....I've seen it how many times, and the ending always seems blurry for some reason. Allergies. Gotta be allergies. Now where's that effin Kleenex... REVEILLE
If it's the one with the old Soldier and Sailor I ain't watching it!!! Okay yes I will. Haven't had a good eye cleaning in a while. edit : damn you Rabid! Hadn't noticed the door mat before, same pattern we have. Now every time I walk out the front door........
Hey, in the credits it lists "the Air force man"? Anyone know what happened or has seen the whole video.
I've seen it several times, and I've never seen an AirForce Man...including watching it straight from their website. The only thing I can figure is that he was the guy carrying the clipboard while the others carried in the mattress.
Two things I like about that video other than the thing that makes the screen go blurry toward the end: 1) It shows the proper way to lower the flag to half-staff. 2) It shows that inter-service rivalries are based on a mutual respect - even for the Air Force.
Agreed. Proper flag etiquette is something I try to stick with. Proper way to lower the flag from half-mast? Raise it all the way up, then lower it. One of my co-workers in the retail years was in the Marine Reserves, we'd go at each other all the time. Folks thought we hated each others' guts! Another guy came up to us one day and apologized, saying he'd joined the Coast Guard. We both sorta popped to attention (or a reasonable facsimile of it, being in civvies), then shook his hand and said that we had nothing but respect for his decision...but that, of course, the next two months before he shipped off for boot would be hell. He laughed and said that he thought that's what we were doing all that time. A few days later, another (not so bright) employee heard about it, and came up and started giving this guy a hard time about "shallow-water Navy". I let him have it, both barrels. He had not earned the right to even have his face stomped in by a Coastie's boot, therefore had no right to give a military man (of any branch) a hard time. Later that day, our Marine friend came in to work the closing shift. I passed the baton to him. Needless to say, slimy civilian never uttered another cross word against any branch of the military, and until the day he was fired, he KNEW that there were 5 branches of the US military, dammit. That was probably the most fun I'd ever had in that particular store.
Found this on an AirForce forum via Google: "Filmmaker Feb 9, 2007 ...we get this question a lot. We originally had an Air Force man move into the apartment after the Army Man died but felt that it changed the mood of the film so we cut it. We wanted to stay with the tribute instead. We even shot the scene and the actor playing the Air Force man was excellent and worked hard, so we kept his name in the credits. This is the only version of the film. Thanks for watching!"
Thanks, I'd say they got it right. The Air Force guy wouldn't have been just carrying the clipboard. He would have been riding On the mattress.
Meet Landon. His father, Marine LCPL Carpenter, gave his life defending our country in Afghanistan earlier this year, a month before his son was born. Baby Landon's Mom wants his story to be known. Take a moment to share this photo with your friends and reflect on the price of freedom. (Not a big fan of Facebook but credit is given where credit is due.) More for LCPL Carpenter; http://www.marinecorpstimes.com/news/2011/02/ap-wounded-lance-cpl-taken-off-life-support-022111/
Be at peace, LCPL Carpenter. :S! Landon, they will never replace your daddy, but you have a whole bunch of uncles in the Corps who will help look out for you.
There are some images that just knock the wind out of you sometimes. Since only members can see the FFZ I've added LCPL Carpenter to our Roll of Honor thread.
