The pilot was not paying attention to the fight, and was not witness to Richtofen's 'kill' hits on the French plane, and thus could not be credited with his first aerial 'kill'.

    Sorry guys, neither.

It has something to do with where the plane fell, actually.

The fight took place on Swiss border and plane fell inside Switzerland thus not being able to confirm?

    PzJgr,

country yes but even easier than that...

The funny thing is that later on it was enough to make it count a victory if Richthofen said it was so...

    Ahhh, ive got it!

The 'french' pilot was anti war and didnt want to fight, so he tried to escape to switzerland. Richtofen jumped him, and while nearing the swiss border the Swiss anti air gunners (fearful of such a pansy making their country look pacifist) shot him down before he could cross the border :D

    Indeed, what great answers!

The right answer is that the plane fell behind the French lines and at the time they could not confirm the kill. ANyway, Carl´s answer is that great that I´m letting him ask next.

Panzerknacker did have a nice idea as well but Carl gets to ask!

    ;)

Now I know, David Niven held on for 55 days at Peking..but I always thought Tientsin was the rail route up to Peking and was taken by original relief force without too much trouble...So Ill guess.... 2 days..

A british ship engaging the Batteries at the Mouth of the Woosong river in 1901.

They got too close and it was in doubt whether or not they would return to the fleet

Whoops, might have got myself in a quandary then...do you know what ship that was Carl, may well have released same signal...but not the one I was looking for..

One I was looking for was after ww2...

Ships cat was awarded a medal as well as some crew... The Brits will get it as soon as I mention The ship shared a name with a precious stone.
