Unless you are willing to spend a lot of time and money on educating yourself I think you are making a sound decision.

Considering that in Europe a lot of the U.S available is repro as well, I'd suggest you keep your eyes open nonetheless, but good luck with your US. collection

    Thanks for the encouraging words!

I plan to keep posting here and reading threads before I start really getting into the collecting. So hopefully I can learn a thing or two. I did however throw caution to the wind and purchased a Photo album containing 50 Photos on Attu during WWII. There is also an employee pass for the launching ceremonies of the USS Attu on May 27, 1944. Included in the album, Not sure if that's anything special tho. Just waiting for it to come in the mail.

    Hi again,
As 'JoshArterburn' very kindly pointed out, I am not here to sell this to you guys, nor do I see why I need to convince you of its originality - I know for a fact that is original. My mother can remember the item being in her fathers house since she was very young (and she was born in 1959). My grandmother can remember it, along with other items, having been there even further back than that and if you will provide me with an adress, I will ask her to send you a letter of authentication.

I am only here to establish the historical value of this piece, not to sell it, not for $1,000,000!. Therefor can I kindly ask for a little more co-operation on the behalf of the more experianced among you. My grandfather was no liar, and he was certainly no glory hunter - he did everything he could to forget the things he saw the war. He was not interested in buying reproduction insignia in order to grofify his soldiering career!

I am not a con-man, I am a young man with a limitless interest in militaria from 1914-1945. All I wanted to do by regisering on this forum was to identify an old war souvinier that I could not find a reference to anywhere else on the internet.

I appologise for my bluntness and I would like to make it clear that I am not trying to question your knowledge on the matter, but I just want to know what the significance of an original non-BeVo example is.

Therefor I would like an answer to this question: How historically significant is the piece if it can be authenticated?

You seem to be a very nice kid 'Englander'...at the end of the day the only person that has to be happy with your items is you...nobody else. If you are happy and believe in what you have then that is all that matters. I will not debate this with you anymore as all that can come from it is nothing but hard feelings...and I think I speak for all of us here when I say that we do not want that.

Please do not bother your Mum for a letter...I am sure that she has better things to do with her time...an besides that...there will never be a letter that will make me change my stance on your piece. It is what it is...but if you are happy with it then so be it!

Buy the item...not the story...remember that if you should decide to persue TR collecting.

    All the best 'Englander'

Hi everyone, sorry, but I havent posted much lately. It is possible that this piece was given to this lads grandfather postwar and he filed it with
the rest of his war loot. I had an HJ knife that was given to me by a vet who brought it back after hostilities. After posting it on another forum
it was thought to be a post war repro. As is stated in most collecting material, be it books or internet, the reproductions started straight away as demand by troops from the allies, went after war souvernirs. So it is possible that this patch could have had this cycle of events.
One further point is we should be encouraging young collectors into the game. I dont think some of the responses here were very well put, considering this is a new guy. The last time I was on this forum, it was a very friendly place. I hope that continues.

    regards John
