I think they're encouraged because of their, ahem... 'fiscal caution'.

Given that reasoning, between my Ukrainian Jewish side of the family and the Scotch-Irish side of the family. I should make Scrooge look like a spendthrift :p

    No argument there

If im not mistaken, Konev and Timoshenko were actually born in Ukraine.

Actually the 1st Ukr. Fr. was the previously named Voronezh Front, Fronts were named according to the sector they were in (Central, Leningrad, Southwestern, etc.). Their designations had no relation at all with their troop make-up, besides with all the constant reorganizations and transfers of the troops contained, it was impossible to maintain preponderance of an ethnical or regional group.

Just for curiosity, the Voronezh front was renamed 1st Ukr.Fr. in Oct. 43. Commanders were Vatutin till Mar.44, Zhukov for 2 months til May 45, then Konev till the end of the war.

In any case I'm not surprised at your figure, because at least the 4 Ukrainian Fronts at least for a time were indeed phisically located in Ukraine proper (1st. U.F. ended up in Berlin, which is rather far from Ukraine ;) ), and the Red Army used to recruit men (and women) from Soviet lands it was passing over, and also taking over liberated prisioners, so it is normal they had a number of Ukraine originated troops on strength.
