It is time to get the technicalities hammered out. BTW,Boba Nette found a snow camo paint job she really digs.
Snow camo should be neat. I'd like to see it. If we allow spare parts to be used, are also going to allow spare decal sets to be used?
Well maybe... why not actually? I mean: it could be rather fair because almost everyone has spare decals from other kits, so I think it may be a good idea, if we're going to allow spare parts I think the admin has to decide on that. Ricky?
Spare parts, spare decals....not much difference really. BTW,if ya ain't got no spares,ya ain't buildin' enuff stuff!
Very happy to allow spare decals, as otherwise that would be another rule I broke in the first competition! Spare decals I consider to be in the same category as spare parts.
You're quite right there! OK ricky & Calhoun, I'm alright with allowing decals& spare parts. Let's get this show on the road! February 1= start date...
Are we allowed to have them in unusual schemes... I only ask because dennis posted a great link to captured vehicles in German use and it included this picture of an SU-85... http://news.webshots.com/photo/24604436 ... 7170wpmgAR
Hey Ricky.I'm itching to do a captured vehicle myself.I'd wait till that build theme goes into effect. But on the other hand, why not?I guess PP will have to lay down the law on that.
Hey ST (and the others ofcourse ) I'm not going to protest against allowing captured vehicles, I'd love to build one myself one day. But JCalhoun also has a point, maybe we can make that the theme for GB 3? That would include one slight problem though: A captured vehicle build would probably inlcude very much thesame tanks as the Allied TD build, because the Allies barely used captured vehicles. What do you guys think?
It would have to be open to wheeled vehicles and halftracks as well. Most of the captured equipment would be in German and Soviet use. I would also recommend providing a picture or a reference to a particular vehicle that was being modeled. Otherwise you could simply build any kit and put opposing markings on it. Kinda like putting Jap markings on a T-34.
Almost every German AFV was used by at least one of the Allies at least once - even if only for training purposes. North Africa and the Russian Front give the greatest number of examples, but that is not all of it. Or you could go a bit 'different' - The Japanese used captured M3 Stuarts, for example. Fair enough, I'll do my SU-85 in Soviet colours...
But did the allies repaint tanks that were used for training purposes? I'd find that rather unlikely... Does that mean you want a GBIII on caputered tanks?Don't you have to be the winner to decide? No, just kidding, I'm good with it.
You do, and I'm not likely to win... Maybe I'll just threaten to ban the next winner unless they do my bidding! Seriously guys, please feel free to ignore my personal preferences regarding what your choice of Group Build is. btw - will we ever do aircraft?
I like the idea of doing GB3 as captured vehicles. I would like to see historical reference to the actual use though. Either a book, photograph, etc. That's just my opinion though. I'd think that aircraft may get chosen as a group build but not until all the vehicles have been done first. Never know though, it could be sooner than later.
that is a totally different brand of wodka. But we can certainly give it a go! Roel, I will certainly consider! Building a Panther is more or less like playing a home match for me.
