The entire series could have been structured better. A few scenes of Sledge, Leckie and John sprinkled here and there could have been better used to keep the viewers up on what's going on with the protagonists lives. Seems the producers could have gotten a few pointers from the folks who put together soap operas. Nothing gets left behind in their stories. I also believe that way too much information (3 books) was used to put together this story. So that right there means that too much subject matter will have to left out to fit the format of the series.

Wow, I am not watching the Pacific for romance and sex scenes, I'm watching it to see what the combat was like for the Marines. But no, they dishonor the vets and waste 40 minutes of the show with bull**** and throw in a 11 minute combat scene. How did the producers not get yelled at for this.

I thought the 8th episode was pretty good.. sad that Basilone has died.

First half was pretty slow though.

The one thing I don't like about the Pacific series is the wasted episodes on romance and training..

    There's a war going on!!

Basilone died as a result of sharpal. At least that is what Wikipedia says. In "The Pacific" he dies due to a gunshot wound.

There are many accounts by Marines that supposedly saw Basilone die. They are so varied, they all cannot be correct. This might interest you, it's the reason they portrayed basilone's death as they did.

"We uncovered new historical evidence: The legend is John Basilone was killed by mortar fire. But one day Hugh Ambrose walked onto the set and handed me Manila John's death certificate. There it was: three rounds of small-arms fire, That nailed how we were gonna show his death."

It is quite frustrating when every last advertisement for this show shows all combat scenes but in reality, about 50% of the show was non-combat. A dirty marketing trick.

Hello guys, I've seen five episodes so far and finally had to comment the show from my perspective. Obviously I compare it a lot to the Band of brothers that is in my opinion the best war related work ever. I had really high expectations for Pacific as I don't know the history so well on that part of the war.

Well, as it is well made and everything, but I have to say that it has been a disappointment for me. You can't really catch up the story line as it jumps from there to here. You can't get a grip of the main characters well enough and there seem to be a lot of needless scenes.

Band of brothers was perfectly written and filmed. It started with straight combat scenes and built up more and more and got deeper and deeper into soldiers mind and thoughts. I think that it gave us a very good perspective on what the war might have been.

This is something that I can't get from the Pacific. Yes, it is well made and battle scenes are awesome, but still... Well, I'm half way with this, so hopefully it will improve...

So far, you could miss Part 3 and Part 8 and not miss a thing in the series. Perhaps the DVD set should do a special action cut that concentrates on the battles. If that happens, the DVD set would probably be about 60 to 70% of the complete series. The storyline would definitely be more fluid and less disjointed.

Gary Sweet as Haney is pretty cool. The Aussie gets away with the US accent pretty well!

Is it just me or has anyone noticed that the Lucky Strikes being offered by the marines to each other have white ends like filter tips instead of brown ends like tobacco?

I still don't seem to get what all the fuss is about, sure it does portray well what life was like in the Pacific for the allied forces, but it still isn't as good as the Band of Brothers series I think.

I'm of the same opinion, the battle scenes are very intense, and well done, but overall! weak ...

I think Generation Kill was much better. The Pacific reminds me of Heartbreak Ridge

Hi brad, I watched it from sttart, and apart from action scenes, it missed the spot, I can't even be bothered to watch the rest of series, it's a shame? as it was always going to be compared to B.O.B. but I just can't see it, why all the hype...:(

I think it is in the characters. BOB from the beginning taught you all about every character and made you apart of there wartime lives, you saw the pain and fear they had, you say the feelings they grew between the men as they portrayed real men from ww2. While the Pacific is different, it only focuses on really two people and there struggle through the war, and for me personally just comes across as another Hollywood attempt to make money, I just can't help but think that they aren't fully portraying the war as it was, and although BOB was not fully historically correct it made you believe it was and I think that is the difference, the way the characters and history is portrayed.

Alright, I'll say it: The Pacific sucks. The only reason I watch it is out of respect for the material.

I was keen to see it, as was most! I believe, but B.O.B lead you on a journey brad, unfortunatley the pacific followed on , minus the characters, if they had kept the same actors? I'm sure it would have worked..ray.

Did the Pacific have Tom Hanks assisting in the directing of this series?

I am not saying that The Pacific sucks in comparison to Band of Brothers; I am saying that The Pacific sucks in comparison to anything that is enjoyable to watch.

Hanks and Spielberg have some explaining to do and I am holding Dale Dye responsible.
