Well, I haven't played since I installed the 1.3 mod and now the game crashes to desktop at every launch. Some googling has not revealed a fix for this issue, so it looks like I am SOOL. EDIT: Looks like I may have fixed it by downloading the K-Lite Codec Pack (sound). The resolution is goofy now - windowed mode it looks, but I can live with that if it means being able to play. Off to bestbuy now to get District 9 and Inglorious Basterds, then HOI3 for rest of day!
Er, yeah...the patch >.< Looks like DMP has already started to release DMP for HOI 3 - Community für Hearts of Iron-Games - for those interested in making the game look a bit better visually.
ohh well i dont know if you was awsering to me, but thank you anyway.. But i discovered what was the problem: each country have a maximum number of generals (to army, sea and air), for example Brasil have maximum 95 generals (you can see that on the history\leaders\ folder, they are numbered 31000 to 31095, so if you want more than 95 divisions with Brasil you gotta change the codes Was what i did; i added just 20 more generals (two of them i made with custom picture i got on the internet) also i changed their skills and gave them more traits (panzer leader, commando, etc), so i could made some more conquests, even so i was not able to defeat Germany at 1955, so i abandoned that game, it gave what it meant to give If someone want to know how to change generals and flag pictures (put the real swastic on the nazi germany, or use the sun-rising empire flag of japan, or change the the colors of the marks and countries tell me and i will teach you guys... If someone want to discuss modding tell me, ty to all
Today I joined the crowd as I bought Hearts of Iron 3. I have not played any of the prior games so I am completely confused at this point. I think the best plan of attack would be; 1) read the manual cover to cover 2) read the strategy guide posted on the HOI website Paradox Interactive Forums 3) just get in the game and look around I have read the limited in game tutorial and have also opened up a game screen. There is just so much to manage. What scares me is that this is a RTS which means looking around to see where everything is at in a real game might be costly. Are there any other considerations that I should keep in mind before I jump into a real game?
The game is actually pretty easy once you get a hang of it, once you know what all the buttons do and what every means. Just focus on you nation, don't worry about anyone else because you cant see them anyway, and the spies don't do an overly good job at getting information. Make sure all your borders a secure with no holes facing the enemy, because once an enemy breaks through they van be hard to stop. The HQ system may appear confusing but it really isn't don't get overwhelmed by it, just think of it as a chain of command and it will be simple. Very important is to make sure you have enough men for your nation and the right equippment. There is no need building a whole army of tanks if you are fighting in the Alps. Having a good amount of men to hold a frontline is far less then the amount of men needed to attack into a frontline. Especially since the enemy will try to bottleneck you between countries our water areas, meaning that once you push throught the front it will widen and expand, meaning more men spread out, and if you don't have enough men, then you may get cut off You also need men to cover you seaward areas to defend against attacks, usually Garrison troops do pretty well at that. You also need reserves behind yous lines for breakthroughs, either going you way or the enemies. As you need troops in the center of your Providences to ward of partisans.
Try play with a regional power insted of major power at begin i guess... like China, Brazil or Spain...
This certainly would be an easier approach then starting as Germany in 1939 and going straight into war. If you want to just learn the basic's without being drawn into any kind of war, you could chose some small country in the middle of nowhere.
All the last posts regarding help with the HOI game has been moved here http://www.ww2f.com/hearts-iron/37678-hoi-3-gameplay-help.html#post450280. If you require an assistance with the gameplay side of the game please feel free to post in that thread.
only bad thing about the regional powers is that they tend to be extremely neutral, and sitting there letting the game run through 4 years just so you can get to the point of actually being able to war isn't exactly the funnest thing in the world, thank god for the noneutrality cheat.
What folder do the patches need to be placed in? I just realized over the weekend that they have not affected certain things. When I looked to make sure they were there I found they downloaded to my desktop rather than a folder for the game.
@Tomcat: well that's the NPCs which seem to be able to ignore the neutrality mechanic for what ever reason, I'm referring to when the players play minor nations. @mikebatzel: you shouldn't have to place the patches anywhere, the patches come as .exe files which automatically install, or it updates automatically from the little start up thing, depending on you, if you've downloaded patches that require you to copy and past them into the directory i'd be wary of viruses and such.
I have downloaded the latest patch (1.3 isn't it?) and many of the the AI regional powers have aligned to the allies or axis. (this is by 1940) I really cannot be bothered about spending leadership on influencing many nations, (playing as the UK) more officers and more research.
after playing as Italy and invading Austria I have to say its probably one of the more entertaining countries to invade. Its shaped in such a way that encirclements are inevitable, at least in the western portion of the country. I got two encirclements in the span of about 30 min. One destroyed about 3 Austrian divisions and the second one took out about 5 divisions.
Yeah, we're experiencing the same thing in our game. Switzerland joined the Allies before 1940, as does the USA, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. Not really a fan of that, I liked how HOI 2 made it hard for the USA to join the Allies until 1941.
I hear that, most of the South American countries are Allied, but most of Europe is part of the Axis, with the exception of Finland, Switzerland and Vichy France, and of course Communist Russia. Most of Asia is split between both Axis and Allied sides as well, If I get the time I will make a list.
