Recently I got two of his books; Belin in toteskampf and his book on 5. SS Wiking.

I wonder how historically accurate his books are.

    Anybody some thoughts?

    He's a French man...

Don't know if he is/was a vet himself, but he has written several books on WW2, 'Toteskampf in Berlin' about the French SS is defence of Berlin. The Wiking book is, obviously, about 5.SS Wiking. I think he wrote his books in French and they were translated into german. Maybe even English, I don't know.

I just wonder about the historical accuracy of his writings. They do have some nice pics in them.

    Thanks for responding, guys!

    Stevin :

I thought Jean M. was a W-SS vet in Charlemagne under Henri Fenet during the defence of Berlin ? If so then yes he would have first hand knowledge of the chaotic battle for the city.

It seems that his books have only been available in the French language.... my French is nearly non-existent, but looking on the 'net M. Mabire appears to be a 'controversial' author in France.

Looking for on-line info, I could only get some info on him on French sites. Unfortunately I am not able to communicate in that fine language. However, I have two of his books in the German language.

Martin, did you gather he was controversial in a 'David Irving' kinda way?

Well, at least I have some nice pics in the book.

I didn't want to go that far as I really don't know. I gathered from one website that there was controversy over his books being sold at the Caen D-Day museum, along with books by David Irving and Kurt Meyer.

I wouldn't classify Meyer alongside Irving but passions can run high in France.....

On Mabire's books: I got a reply on another forum. This guy said he gave Mabire's Wiking book to a Dutch former officer of the Wiking division and he really liked the book. Said that it was the best description on the div. that he had read. Said Mabire even had the 'soldiers-language/lingo' down...

    Stevin :

Just found out that Jean was a former paratroop offizier in Algeria and has written more than 50 books, primarily on the Waffen SS.

Wow! 50! A French Kurowski it seems....Less controversial perhaps than Mabire.

Thanks for the info, Erich. It's appreciated.
