Just came across the following comments regarding Hans Delbruck, and remembering our discussion about influential military historians thought I might share them here.

Hans Delbruck, the dean of modern military historians, characterized his great Geschichte Der Kriegskunst as “a history for the friends of history, written by a historian.” (Hugh Cole “Writing Military History,” Military Review 1949., p. 162. From his paper read to the American Historical Association in 1947. )
