Hi all, My name is Bart and I live in Belgium. My main interest is the Belgian army during WW2. My specific interest are the fortresses around the Belgian city of Liège. I concentrate myself at the fortress of Eben-Emael where I'm also an official guide. That's basicly the place were WW2 started for Belgium. Well, that's it (more or less )
Bart, Bonjour, et bienvenue! Interesting that you work at Eban-Emal. I was looking at that fortress a few weeks ago, at their website. Do you know if there is a detailed map extant of the fortress and its surroundings? I have found some diagrams that show where it is, and some of the casemates. Somehow, none of these illustrated the fort the way I was looking. I guess I'm trying to get a good visual image in my mind, perhaps of what the men saw as they jumped from the planes? Thanks, and again, welcome!
You mean pictures from the upper part of the fortress? Well, I've got a couple of them (some original, some from nowadays). Btw, they landed with Glider planes, they didn't jump out of planes And thanks for the welcoming (i'll put the pictures in the Eben-Emael thread)
PS: I live in the dutch-speaking part of Belgium (yup, this country has got three official languages ). However, I speak French too, donc c'est aucune problème Au revoir
