At one time, calling the police was the thing to do. Nowadays it is not even worth it. Might as well just write off anything you own. You will never see any of the stolen material again. The police will just fill out a report and add it to their blog. If you ask them what they intend to do...their will be submit the report. Too many burglaries to investigate each and everyone along with all of the other major crimes which take precedence. Heck, they do not even respond to accidents unless someone is hurt. They expect you to call the tow truck to have your vehicle removed. So, if crime is to stop.....then defend your stuff. Otherwise, don't even bother to lock the door. This is also a good example of how people kill people, not guns. Take guns away and there will be other weapons used.
Really? I've read this story at so many different places and each time it seems to be saying something different. It doesn't say how many times he swung at the criminal, if he cut his hand and the guy still decided to fight back...
Thank you Reb ;-)) Ha ha, Slava, you sure do have a great way with words. You get my 30 points for it soon as I shut up and post this ;-)) Hi Meher, going for the death option-just might not be an option. If you know what I mean? In other words, a homeowner here in Texas is allowed to do what he deems is necessary-and if also enough time to do so? and if he has the option to injure or kill? that might alsio not be an option because things might go bad very fast and a person does what he can do in that kind of situation. Earlier this year, I had two people try to rob me-as I was out for a walk through the neighborhood-and my neighborhood is located ina good part of town with little or no crime. The first guy pulled a knife on me and tried to grab me and I not only slashed his hand open with the keat on my keychain that I always hold in my right hand but, I also grabbed the thumb on his right hand-the one that had the knife in it, and I bent the thumb backwards, causing a LOT of pain, he dropped theknife and I had him lying on his back on the ground in less than I figure-was about 3 seconds, and he was crying in pain because I slit his hans wide-open with those keys on my keychain. The scar that will leave should be a constant reminder to him to "go straight" and become a member of the Community. The second incident happened about aweek later-again during my walk, and I did the same thing to this guy-meaning I had him on the ground in about 3 seconds after bending his thumb ina direction its not meant to be bent in, but I didn't use my keys on him since he didn't pull a weapon on me. Anyway, to get back to the original reply, you do whatever you have to do in order to keep your family safe as well as your property and if that means killing a burglar-so be it. That burglar KNOWS too well that he's breaking the law and if he gets killed in the process-well, he's footloose and fancy free. Well said Clint ;-)) Well said Ike. Slava, I still have to spread points around a bit so ill have to owe ya ;-))
Well in Germany your only allowed to defend yourself and your stuff with adequate means. And the law sees any human live always higher than any materialistic properties. Self defence is only related to persons, so if you shoot somebody who steals your car outside it's homicide. For me that view on self defence is the best approach on the subject and I and the vast majority of my fellow countryman support it. But well other countries other customs like we use to say over here. @Carl The "Herr Rittmeister" (reserved for cavalry) I only found at history festivals so far Grüße Philipp
I see your point, it's a really odd situation, I guess once more details are released about how the events in the house unfolded it will be a bit easier to discuss.
Reminds me of my grandfather's lead filled kaki colored slapjack he used when he was Sheriff in Picher Oklahoma back around the roaring 20's. Its showing its age Really? From my post #4. “Pontolillo, who rents the house in the 300 block of E. University Parkway in the Oakenshawe neighborhood, struck the intruder no more than twice, police say, nearly severing his left hand and inflicting what police termed a "spear laceration."” Here’s a link to that story should anyone be interested: Police: Intruder was in prison several times
Hi Philipp, Germany has some laws that IMO, need to be changed. I have many German friends there and I get the "scoop" on things about things happening in Germany. My friends feel the way I do on things. Also, I already knew what Rittmeister was reserved for-im a collector of German Militaria, as well as many many books about Germanys "adventures" during WWI and WWII ;-)) Oh and, I happen to own a minty pair of 5th Uhlan Kav Rgmt Rittmeisters boards and are very familiar with said rank term ;-)) One of your Countries greatest heros in WWI is one of my all-time most favorite people to read about-who was Manfred von Richthofen-aka, Der Rote Baron ;-)) BTW, when I was ona train going from konstanz to Frankfurt via Heiidelberg-I met one of the Red Barons Great Grandsons. We shared the same first class compartment for the trip. Also, I happened to be reading a book about his Great Grandfather while I was in that compartment. I was reading but noticed this guy grinning at me and I faked liek I had not noticed-that is, until he cleared his throat and asked me how I liked that book? I told him it was a great book and that teh Baron was one of my alltime most favorite Pour leMe Rite Recipients of WWI-as was Lothar von Arnauld de le Periere-the famed Uboat ace. Anyway, he had asked me how I came to know or have an interest in one of Germany's Heros from WWI, and I told him ever since I read my first book dealing with WWI, I had always wanted to know more about the Red Baron. The guy kept grinning and I was beginning to think something wierd was going on but, he told me who he was and also gave me one of his calling cards-announcing who he was. He also told me that if I ever come back to Germany for a visit, that I was welcome to come stay at one of his families homes. Pretty cool eh? ;-))
Hi White Flight, thanks for the link to that version of the story. The part about being tied up never happened. Also, the man was not shot in the face but shot in the chest. Police Chief Brian Smith was one of the Cops on the scene and had also came out and publicly announced that the Mother and SOn, would not have any charges filed against them as well as DA Carlos Valdes also publicly announced his full support for the actions of the Mother adn Son and said he would not allow them to be prosecuted for the shooting. In fact, after the handgun had been routinely confiscated by the Police-the Police Chief himself-handed them back their weapon. You have to take reading anything by the Caller Times-with a grain of salt. That news rag is almost as bad as The National Inquirer. I quit reading that paper about 10-12 years ago, and even then, I only bought the Sunday edition for their TV guide ;-)) Anyway, I don't know if the actual more truer story is still published on Eric von Wades website or not? but he had it posted for quite sometime, the story of what happened. Eric von Wade also had the boy and Mother as guests on his radio show too. Speaking of IWA, they are located only about 4 blocks from the Apt Complex I lived at at that time. That area of town is a slightly older one--where IWA is located, but is still one of the nicest neighborhoods in town. Anyway, thanks for a link to the CCCT, it's always interesting to see how they get on the facts. Eric von Wade is a much better and factual source. Also, what I posted came from Carlos Valdez himself when I saw him at the County Courthouse one of the times I had business there. I am acquainted with him but thats as far as it goes. I've had several chats with him over the past 3-4 years about things ;-)) Ill tell you another thing about him, he is definately one person to have on "your side" as he is IMO, the best DA that Nueces County and the region ever had. Take care and best regards--C.
